Fracking DVD burner.

I have a Samsung burner that is one year old. I have probably burned less than 25 disks in the last 12 months.

Now I am getting I/O errors under windows 7.

Recently there were some updates that I installed to windows and I suspect most of you have those updates too.

Has anyone had problems? I am setting up an XP system tomorrow to test but right now I think it might be the drive.

What are the thoughts...

I've never had a CD/DVD drive issue. Did you happen to take it out ever or mess with the hardware inside your computer? Maybe it's just loose.

nope. Not recently anyways. I emails Samusng I doubt they will respond. I will look into a new burner I think that is where this is heading.

Re: Fracking DVD burner.

im assuming you have the latest firmware? if you recently upgraded to windows 7 the drive might need an update in order to work with win 7...

just a guess :)

I have been on 7 for a few months now and have burned maybe 4 disks without issues since then. I am really leaning towards the drive but I checked for a new firmware but Samsung doesn't have it any place that's obvious.

UPDATE

Samsung emailed me. They say reinstall the drivers and if the problem persists the drive needs service. I don't know what reinstalling generic windows drivers is going to do but ok, whatever.

Do you have LED's on the driver at all? If it doesn't work, do they even turn on?

Re: Fracking DVD burner.

draxon2000, you're right about that. Daemon Tools sometimes will do this, too.
