beginner questions

I've only just heard of home brew for psp so ive read some articles on this forum and im still unclear on some things.

i want to play psx isos on a psp and its version 3.03 so I should use dark alex's 3.03 OE-A custom firmware? after that I should put the iso on my memory stick and that would allow me to play it?

also what program do you use to rip isos from your original psx game cds?

thanks

None the less, alochol 120% is the best one out there. Converts lots of your games to almost anything (including .iso, .bin, and even .msd, plus lots more!)
It will check whether its a playstation cd or playstation 2 cd (or more) dump it, give you you're file, and you are good to go.

If you want to play playstation 1 on your PSP, tell me your firmware (must atleast be 1.00-2.80 firmware). If it is, then you will have the choice:
Of Upgrading from a 2.71 SE-A/B/C custom firmware
or
Of Upgrading from a 1.50 firmware. (1.50 reccomended)
So get to 1.50 (reccomended) and download the 3.02 OE-A auto installer! Once you are
at OE-A, update to OE-B by using this updater.
After you are at OE-B, update to 3.03 OE-A using this updater.
After that, PM me for the files to get playstation going on your PSP Firmware 3.03 OE-A!
For all the files located above, please read the readme on how to install, if you are un-clear about anything, post here.

so its impossible to emulate ps1 games if your firmware is 3.03?

I read this thread:
http://www.pspbrew.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6651
and since it was posted on late dec of 2006 I thought it was obsolete but I read the readme for dark alexs 3.03 OE-A and it said to update to 3.03

and i dont have a psp yet. I'm going to buy one tommorow and I was wondering what version do stores usually sell psps at

Thanks alot

Good job he hasn't bought a PSP yet, DO NOT UPGRADE USING OFFICIAL FIRMWARE, be careful of what you are upgrading with mate.
I made that mistake a year ago, and well, i didn't use my PSP for more than GTA and PM3 player till late last year when i remembered about the Homebrew stuff, lucky 2.80 downgrader was on it's way at the time. Dark_Alex is referring to a custom 3.03 firmware, remember the "OE" and "SE" extensions, they signify the custom firmware!
Just to make sure this is clear, hope you don't upgrade before reasing this.. :S

oe means "open edition" while se means "special edition" se is for 2.71 custom firmwares and oe is for 3.02 -3.03 custom firmwares

should I go
2.71 -> Hen D - >2.50?
can 2.50 downgrade to 1.50 with a TA-082 motherboard? this one thread told me if I try to downgrade any lower than 2.5 then my psp will brick

you downgrade from 2.71 to 1.5. That is lie about bricking your psp if it is lower the version 2.5. You could brick your psp if you do something wrong during the downgrade tho

if you had a TA-082, I believe the proper step would have been to upgrade to 2.80 and use the newest (difficult) downgrader that was released by 0okm.

Sounds like you have bricked your psp. Sorry about that. If you end up getting another one and need assistance on something in particular, feel free to send me a PM.
