I'm not sure if the PSP caps off at 16gb or 32gb of space right now, but that would have to be taken into consideration, I think, unless custom firmware is written to bypass this. I know there are 16gb memory sticks, but 32gb are yet to be released.

I think this is very possible and this idea has been thrown around before, but I'm not sure the PSP firmware is capable of even registering more than 16gb of data storage at this time. If that's the case, you'd have to use an older drive and you'd get terrible speeds.

a guy over at acidmods has already been able to network a drive to a psp to run games off of. I don't know about speeds but it sounds playable. He has found a board to run pretty much any battery you connect to it so that the external HD is portable and does not have to be connected to a computer. check out acidmods for the details.
