iPOD Video

well, i knew this was comming. It was all over the internet. But anyways, ive decided to buy the nano the day before apple announced it. But just to clear things up, i will not be buying the new ipod video, but will stick with my beloved nano.
Even though i could just simply return my nano right now and buy the new ipod video 30 gig which is the same price.

This is what i dont like about it
-Runs on a hard drive, which will drain battery life.
-Playing a movie will also drain bettery life
-it skips when driving in a car
-heats up
-And transfer rate for videos from comp to ipod will probaly be slow, just like every handheld electronic out there.
-And you will get bored of watching the video the second time you watch it (trust me, i have 8 pda's and the psp)
making it a waste of time putting the video on there the first place.

But what i like about it is that it has alot of memory. And theres hacks for it, like doom on an ipod. Which i find very cool. But this is my opinion, im sure others will like this ipod. Me? of course i like it 8)

so heres my question, "would you rather purchase the nano or the video ipod?"

it depends really, on whether you would actually have a use for the video ipod. I mean if you travel alot then the video ipod would certainly be ideal for that. But if you have a psp why bother with ipod at all? i have 2 1GB sticks which I can store 4 films on one and loads of mp3's on the other :D

I heard that with the iPod video you'll be able to download entire tv shows through iTunes for about $2 a show.

well, thats true, 1.99 a download. And you can even download newly showned episodes. If you see a new episode of simpsons today, you can download it tommorow. And ive just found out that it has TV OUT!!!!!!! GRR....now i want it. I can still return my nano for a full refund and get the 39 gig. But i think i will stick with my nano.

My roommate has a nano and I didn't like it half as much as I did once I saw it. Playing videos on it would be sweet. You should switch from nano to video.

I have 40 GB ipod photo that I got last December and it's great. I have 2,379 songs on it which I listen to all day at work. Ive rode my mountain bike with this thing on and it doesnt skip, and yes I have it in my car as well, it's never happened, there really isn't any reason it would be an issue on this new one. Mine doesnt heat up, except maybe when charging and for music and pictures it will last a good 15 hours on a charge. The 5th generation ipods actually have longer battery life than the 4th generation do, although it supposedly gets only 2-3 hours of batery life when playing video but that's no worse what the psp gets with a UMD. And transfering files shouldnt be bad at all if you have a firewire port on your computer. I transfered over a gig of picture files in a few minutes on my 4th gen one. Theyre great storage devices too. Ive got all sorts of random files on it. Hell, I've got half my computer files backed up on it. AND you can save media on them and connect them to the Xbox 360 and the 360 will play the files right off of it. An interview I read with one of the deparment heaads of the 360 division said you can use plalysts from your ipod and it will make that the background music for many games. Take your 4 Gig nano back and for another $50 you'll have 26 more gigs, and you can play movies and pictrues and stuff, even if you don't care about those features. And make sure that you get it in black.

I dont really see the point. A v1.5 PSP pretty much does everything it does, except its more gaming focused, less song or video focused. But really, a PSP does seem like a better investment here.

the 30-60 gig hardrive is tempting though.

Seems like Sony should of consulted Apple regarding memory issues. Why doesnt PSP sport a 40 gig HD like the Ipod? The sizes are similar, and I wouldnt care if they had to make the PSP fatter or something to cram a HD in there. Duh Sony.

btw: return that Nano and trade up!!!

Exactly, it doesn't matter that the psp can play music and video, 1 GB or 2 GB at most isn't nearly enough. And at half the size the ipod is much better for music, pictures, and video. I see them as two completely different things. As one review of the psp I read said: "to compare the psp to an ipod is like comparing a food processor to my garden weasel".
