help i got a compact wireless-g broadband router MDL#WRT54GC

ok i got a compact wireless-g broadband router Model #WRT54GC and i got a westell dsl modem when i hook the two of them together and i put the setup disk in it says no internet connect and i have to choose which one staic ip DHCP ect anyone know whats wrong?
