Sounds too good to be true. Also sounds like it would make a nice front page story.

It does, but it was posted on Team Noobz site, and a lot of other major sites out there. I have it posted on the front page now though, was working on it for a bit while doing some other stuff around the house.

He means more money in the sense that now he can charge people money to unbrick their psp's and can charge people money with any firmware for a downgrade. More business, more money.

So am I right in assuming that this will downgrade 3.51 & 52 firmwares, and possibly further firmwares in the future?

If this can be successfully used on a PSP slim, then I'm definately picking one up in Japan! Although we would still need a custom firmware or dual boot situation to use the psp slim exclusive features...

While there aren't too many details about the psp slim, I read somewhere that the batteries MAY be compatible (the original batt might stick out, but you would only need to use one for this little trick). Granted, this would probably also require fairly similar hardware as well... but if someone is willing to try it on a psp slim and it works, well then you have slim homebrew.

The developers even said themselves that they had hoped to wait to release this until the slim came out... probably in hopes of downgrading that and keeping this little trick a secret so Sony wouldn't have a chance to combat it before the slim is released. We'll just have to see.

I hear homebrew is not compatable between the units... wow that made me sownd smart diddn't it? anyway, sony probably just made this so homebrewers wouldn't play homebrew iso's or cso's.

This was made to unbrick psp units, but it certainly is getting a lot of attention as a universal downgrader as well. By unlocking the "service mode", theoretically, any psp unit can be reflashed to version 1.50. Keep in mind that it isn't a full version of 1.50 either... many people are upgrading to version 2.00 and then using the MPH downgrader to get back to version 1.50 - then upgrading to custom firmware.

Regarding the slim psp units, this SHOULD work on them as well. I'm not sure about the battery details that brent outlined, but I am certain that a battery can be crafted to suit the purpose. Keep in mind, though, that the slim psp units have reportedly been said to have processors in them that only clock to 266mhz. That means that many homebrew programs/ emulators may lag... that is, if that's true.
