If you are getting an error where it crashes back out to the XBM, I doubt it's a firmware problem. More likely to be some mistake you made when burning it.

Have you tampered with your opening_plugin.prx? If you have, your psx compatability will be disabled.

Either that, or you just simply have something set up incorrectly.
