Hi, I'm a new to all of this.

Hi, I just got my slim PSP(3.71) about a week or so before. I am completely new to all of the PSP homebrew scene. I tried reading some tutorials but was overwhelmed.

Where do I start? I mainly just want to run emulators for super nintendo and/or N64.

Any help is much appreciated. Thank you.

Well, first step is changing to a custom firmware. You unfortunately need a second psp that is capable of producing the special battery you need to downgrade your psp. I believe there are places to buy the battery and you can make the memory stick by yourself. The main tutorial you need is this one:

This will get you goin into the world of custom firmware. From there you can load up emulators and such.

Thanks for everyones help. So instead of buying another PSP all I need to do is get a pandora battery? And Magic Stick? I can make the magic stick myself by buying another memory stick duo?

Well installing the Magic Memory stick files requires a installer, but the installer is a homebrew app, so a psp on official firmware can't run it. You can buy the Pandora's Battery and Memory Stick on eBay though, or buy a spare 'phat' psp battery and an optional extra memory stick, or just send them them the memory stick you have and you can format the memory stick you have to make it usable again.

Thats not true, you can make the stick with a regular psp and your computer... you can also use a slim battery if you hardmod it.

Anyways, if you want to try and hardmod the battery you can follow this tutorial...

or this one as well...

Sorry for being such a noob.
But let me just get things straight.

Here is what I have:

    1 Slim PSP /w battery
    1 1GB memory stick
    USB Cable

To attempt homebrew I need to additionally get:

Another battery(I can get either a fat or slim battery right?) - To make the pandora
Another memory stick(atleast 512MB right?) - to make magic stick

Does that sound correct? Sorry for the excessive questions, I am pretty literate with computers I should be able to get this on my own once I'm able to get these initial steps out the way.

well yes and no, because you cant just go buy any PSP battery new from the store. Some batterys are "fixed" by sony so they dont work as pandora batterys. And i'm not sure if a slim battery will work or not... someone else will have to tell you. I used an old PSP battery i had from my psp when i bought it last year and it worked perfectly.

and you can use your 1gb memory stick if you want to use with pandora, but to return it to normal use you would have to delete all the pandora stuff off, so it might be easier just to get another memory stick.

I used a 256MB and it worked fine, and is commonly used and cheaper, so go with 256 unless you have another reason to go bigger.

As long as the memory stick is 256 MB or more, you should be good. The battery has to be a 'phat' battery, and an older version battery since the new phat battery released now are unpandorable. You can revert the Stick back to use fairly easy though, you just gotta format your memory stick.

thanks for making what i said simpler haha

ya i would just get a 256 or use the one you have because its not really necessary to spend much money on it. The battery is slightly challenging to find if you dont have an old psp phat battery or a friend with one. If you do you could always buy a new battery, give it to your friend and use his old battery as the pandora. Or you could buy a used battery from gamestop or even use ebay.
