:x UMD drive not working

This is really just a rant topic. I've tried blowing air into the drive, but it won't load anything. It was working earlier, and all the sudden it won't load any games up. f**k sh*t. [/rant] Anyone else have this problem? What did you do?

Wanna know something? I DID have this problem. And what more? I actually fixed it without taking it apart. See, one day, I left the psp alone and had come back to it... only it had quit playing my UMDs. I was so pissed off... and I was about to send it to Sony but chose against it. Instead I just used it for about 3 months and only used homebrew. Then, out of frustration, I held the psp normally in my left hand, and slammed my right hand into the UMD tray/ battery cover (right on the crease there) from about 4-5 inches away. Viola - fixed, and I don't have a damn clue how it broke in the first place.

At worst, the UMD drive bay is broken.

Hmm, I've tried that. Unfortunatly, nothing happened. I have a feeling the guy I bought the PSP from beat the sh*t out of it. Anyway, I bought a new one today much to my chagrin just becuase I'm enjoying LCS a lot. I guess at the very worst, it'll not work and maybe I can just give it to my bro so he can play homebrew games. And hey, on the bright side, I guess I get more downgrading experience!

Dang... that sounds pretty sh**ty. I mean, idk what happened to mine, but I went for a while and then hit it... may sound stupid, but it works now ;) lol.

But yea, if you bought a new psp, just remember to get a screen protector! - Those are really important imo.

Yeah, the screen on this new one is a lot better than the old one. The old one had all sorts of scratches on it. It's nice to play with a clean screen! :)

I've heard of this problem many time before...usually its the open button for your tray, it gets stuck or jammed and if the psp thinks the door is open then your umd games wont play. so maybe check that little slide button out, play with it a little bit n see if that changes anything....(@pacman this was probably the case with yours)

I don't think the slide button has anything to do with recognizing if there is a UMD in the drive. If you put a UMD in the psp and begin to play a game, you can actually OPEN the UMD tray slightly and be able to still play the UMD. Because of that, I know that the "open-slider" button is not the culprit. Instead, there is a little metal "pin" that controls that. Perhaps that was goofed somehow... but I guess I'll never know.

Just an idea, but have you checked the UMD itself? Sometimes the clear plastic cover gets depressed into the white jackets slightly and hinders the UMD from actually running.

Nah, I have only two games, one new, and the other like new. I love my PSP but Sony sure as hell doesn't build their products to last anymore. People were having a lot of problems with PS2's as well.
