What is IRSHELL for?

I have downloaded and installed and IRSHELL to my PSP and heard that it is a useful app but when i launched it all I was able to see is lots of different options which are really confusing.
How do I use this program? What's the main purpose for it?
Enlighten me!

I like to use IR Shell to turn my PSP into a universal remote control but in reality IR Shell is an alternative (not a replacement) interface for your PSP with additional features.

I really depends. When I was experimenting with it there were 2 versions. A 150fw and another one for 3.71 if I remember right. I used the 150fw version of it and there was an icon for the universal remote. I had to install brand codes for whatever it was I wanted to control, in my case a television and a DVD player.

If you are interested in assistance with IR Shell, I need to know if you have a slim or a fatty and what firmware you are using before I can continue.

Yeah i was wondering what it was for too, but i cant seem to figue out the install. I got a slim 3.90 M33-3. It seems like the only ir shell that i can find go up to 2.71. Am i missing a version somewhere or will that work?

Well the Universal Remote only works if you have a phat psp because the slim doesnt have an infrared port on it.

IRShell allows you to listen to music in games, stream media from your PC to your PSP, run homebrew, have tons of key shortcuts, control your T.V, view all kinds of documents, run ISOs, manage files, anything basically! It also offers a great graphical interface, which is much more pleasant to look at then the standard XMB.

How do you Install the remotes you may ask?

First off, download the remotes from http://www.irshell.org/download/prontocodes13.zip. Once you finish downloading, just extract it like you did with the original IRShell file. Once done extracting, open the folder, and do you see the folder called IRShell? Open that, then transfer it to the root of your memory stick

man its more difficult to install that other homebrew ive done previous. Most of it looks like i need an older version than upgrade to 3.90, but how do i do that if im already 3.90 M33? guess ill mess around with it. It keeps telling me i have an unsupported firmware. ARRG!

Edit: Should i install a lower version of IR Shell and then upgrade? im a little lost, since once i install, it just keep going back to trying to start with IR shell that doesnt run.. any advice?

It has been confirmed to work on 3.40OE and 3.51/3.52M33, but not 3.30OE.

Maybe it doesnt work with your version. IDK i havent been into psp for atleast a year.

It should definitely work on 3.90. That iR Shell version was made specific to that firmware. You can try downgrading though if you really want to use it.

yeah, ill try a few more times to see if i can get it right, if not oh well. I dont think ill downgrade since im just now learning the in's and out's of 3.90 M33-3, dont want to have to relearn anything again. Hope it works, but if not, i guess its not a big deal since i havent used it up till now anyway. Thanks for the help.

edit: Yeah i figured it out, but founds its not worth it since it wont play my ps1 games that i have, or the gba emulator, or iso's....crappy. Looks like a neat little program though.
