To take things to a technicality

Roms are not exactly illegal all the time aren't they? If you legally own a copy of the game can't you have backups etc, and be able to download rom at your own will. but wouldn't that be at your own risk? Maybe there is a way to say that in posts and stuff.
I thought if you own a copy of a game your legally allowed to download the rom at will and make copies for YOUR own use though nobody elses.

if you own a copy then it would be legal to back up the copy of the game, not download, downloading is most always illegal.

But I mean say I have a NES game or SNES game, Right? I can download the rom legally since I own a copy of it. I read this on rom sites and such Soo I think that would be only way to post it legally.
