The initial PS3's had built in hardware backwards compatibility. I can understand ditching that to bring costs down. But the last batch of backwards compatible ps3's had emulated compatibility. Like the 360. It doesn't make sense that it would be dropped at all considering emulated backwards compatibility does not require any extra hardware.

staxx wrote:lolol, you guys are full of information that makes the 360 look like crap...

I'm more of a sony fan as well so you know my opinion isnt biased.

for #1...wifi adaptor that costs $70 - $100 isnt needed. As long as you have an ethernet cable you can hook it up to a modem/computer/router. the wifi adaptor sucks anyway and i wouldnt recommend getting it.

#2 Online play, you get what you pay for is what it comes down to. Yes you have to pay for a subscription to xboxlive but everything is monitored online. People get suspended for trash talking, obscene language, cheating, etc. Ever hated playing against people who use hacks ruining the game for all who play it? This is your answer. Also you can buy subscriptions in 1 month incriments at a cost of about $7 - $10 if you're not interested in forking out $50 for a 13 month subscription.

#3 Movies/tv shows/console games (snes, xbox, nes, sega, etc.) and game add-ons/map packs can be directly downloaded straight from your xbox with either a credit card or microsoft points.

#4 Heres a list of xbox 360 exclusive games...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360_exclusives

vs.

ps3 exclusives...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:P ... only_games

#5 You can sync your xbox to your computer via windows media player to stream movies, pictures, music, etc. You can sync your zune if you own one.

#6 Gamer points...it brings a new meaning to "unlockables". You'll find yourself playing your games more often exploring different areas, doing things you would have missed out on the first time or just plain wouldnt have thought of in order to achieve these gamer points.

#7 Backwards compatability. If you own any xbox games from the previous console they work if not, you can always download them straight from the xbox dashboard.

I'm sure theres a whole sh*t load more that i'm missing out on seeing as how i havent really played any of my consoles since my daughter has been born. BKFraiders could probably add to this as well. In all honesty though, I bought my xbox thinking it would just be like any other console updated graphics different gameplay (the typical expected) but i was very impressed with the console itself and how much it actually had to offer.

Didn't read your post until now.
# 1 That's fine. However, my internet is downstairs, and I'm upstairs. I'd have to wire an ethernet cable either through the floor to get to my room or use wireless. People with my situation know that they will need the wifi doggle or whatever it is called.
# 2 Well, the PS3 games don't have an omniscient being watching over every game together. Each company runs their own networks. This is good because the companies can monitor their games better, actually. Games that are rated M for mature have mature games and because of it, they'll use the language that's in the games themselves without being penalized. If you were playing an intense game online and you cussed or something a lot on XBox live, then it would be like going to see South Park the movie and getting in trouble for cussing. Of course over cussing would get you in trouble most of the time and cussing on Elmo's Grouchland Adventure that has kids playing online with you. The companies basically would have better control over the game based on the game and in turn, it would make it better for the players.
# 3 Same exact thing with the PSN. Except MS Points don't matter on it, you can use PSN cards or whatever they're called that you can get at Wal-Mart or 7-11.
#4 The 360 does have more exclusives, but I still think that they have equal amount of games I'd like on both consoles. So, I'm in the middle on that one. It may be different for someone else. They could hate Halo and see no reason to get the 360 or maybe they hate MGS or something.
# 5 You can do that with a PS3 too. You can also do it over the internet and be at Starbucks or a Hotel or something when your PS3 is at home. You can also use the PSP to do it too.
# 6 This wouldn't apply to me nor a lot of people. But it would to people like you and, a lot of other people too. I like playing my games fully. Ya' know, sucking the marrow out of life kind of thing. I don't want a gimmick to make me play the entire game. If I don't like it, I don't play it as much, if I do, then I play the entire game. Usually more than once or twice all the way through.
# 7 But what games did the original XBox have though? Not that many. That's why this subject wouldn't help the 360 arguement as much. This really hurts the PS3 though and I hope they enable the PSX emulation.

Linux on PS3 is actually useful too cause you can use it to easily dump blueray discs.

And you can run emulators through it as well. I haven't tried it yet but I am trying to get familiar with Ubuntu so I can load it on my ps3 and run emus.

Crait, staxx was not saying some of those points were xbox 360 exclusives. He was only making those points in regards to earlier comments made such as "psn has a media center", so staxx said so does the 360. Just wanting to point that out since in a lot of your points you were just reiterating what was already said in the thread so I wasn't sure if you understood what he meant...

Also, not sure what you mean by using your ps3 to stream media content from your computer while at starbucks, when the ps3 is at your house.

But really, half of that list made can just be disregarded because both systems have half of the pros listed for one or the other system.

Sorry, I didn't think he read the posts though so I was reposting some points.
And yeah. You can set your PS3 up to become an FTP and you can access it anywhere in the world using your computer.
Starbucks has free Wi-Fi so I just said that place as an example.

Well, I picked up a PS3 today. My girlfriend's brother is here from australia, and he's grown up playing Japanese games his whole life (he's Japanese), so he picked a used 40gb PS3 for $300. I tried his out and I was sold. I got a used 80gb for $350, and to save money he's giving me $50 to swap the drives. Which means I essentially bought a 40gb for $300.

I tried out TVersity with encoding disabled, and it does everything my original XBOX does, so that's one system I can put away now.

Thanks to everyone for helping me in the group brainstorming. I now have a PS3 :D (which is in excellent condition) and $350 is back out in the economy :(

Nice, it is well worth it. The story is my favorite, right after FF7!
