What difficulty were you playing on? Because I swear it is taking me and my friend ages to beat it on insane :p But GOW is a ok game. I just don't see why it was so popular, but it's just not my cup of tea. Not really a advance type of fighting, never been one to be interested in Greek Mythology, and I just don't enjoy it. I mean I don't want to have to beat a uninteresting game to the end to make me like it.

It's not the religion that causes wars, it's the men who use religion as a means to control people that do.

I beat the game recently too, Having been a really big fan of the original I can say that the game was quicker obviously because of the space on the UMD and also there were a lot less enemies to kill on screen I think because of some hardware limitations of the PSP be it fatty or slim (I am on a slim now) Asside from that I think the game was fun although like I stated I would have liked to see more enemies. I am currently doing the chalenge of the gods trying to kill 20 fire wariors without being hit. Anyone complete all of the challenges?

OH and I did not even realize God of War had a multiplayer!

I completely agree. I don't understand what made the games so popular. It's not like the graphics on any of the versions were completely stunning, or there was an amazing change in gameplay. It's my firm belief that GOW games appeal to younger people more because they haven't ever seen a real pair of boobs... I mean, the vulgarity, the hack and slash gameplay, the soundtrack... all of that stuff has been done before. I don't see GOW as a game that offers anything else on the table except for... well... boobs.

For me and the original "God of War" it was never about the boobs.

I liked the continuation on the Greek myths that we know so well and love so much; so there you have a good story. I also liked the violence I thought it was set at a level that was just right. I particularly remember the spatter of blood when the oracle fell to her death and bounced on the slab of rock below once she hit. The crunchy sound was a good touch too! The mini games were optional but fun to try for a change. There was a great variety of weapons and power up options and the #1 reason for loving this game for me is the variation in dispatching the "new" creatures from the "old" mythologies. It was so much more than hack and slash because of the easy to learn and perform combinations. Also some techniques worked better than others.

I really do not see what is not to like. Guess the haters have never really played or played to completion.
I know of only one game that emulates "God of War" and that was "Conan" for the 360. I can not think of any games that God of War emulates as closely as the one I described.

I just don't think that GOW offers anything that Prince of Persia doesn't, especially in regards to combat, and for me, Prince of Persia's storyline was far better than GOW. And for me, someone that read Greek mythology books as early as 4th grade (like the Golden Sun), I think that GOW doesn't accurately depict Greek mythology and therefor I lost most respect for the GOW games. I don't think it's good to "reinvent" Greek mythology... not at all.

I can see your point.

I always viewed God of War as an addition or continuation of the myths rather than a complete change. I still think the story is good and far better than Prince of Persia.

As far as the Greek myths go they actually vary from family to family so no one knows the REAL story if there ever was one, I think there was but that is for another thread if someone starts one.

As for the comparison to Prince of Persia I do not think there really is one. Prince of Persia to me, is Pitfall with more things to kill. I was done with Prince of Persia after the second game.

The only resemblance to Prince of Persia I think is just the unique fighting type that wasn't in most games when they came out. Thats it. They just both have unique attacks. Well I've only played and beaten the first pop. And ive only played and beaten the first gow. I'm not a huge fan and I won't spend $40 on the psp one. But I think it is probably better than the pop games on psp.

I think the first GOW is the best I played the second one but did not stick with it long enough to beat it. I beat the PSP version of GOW and have stated its short comings. With that said I think the portable version is a quick fix for when you lack the original and want to play it. Unfortunately I am not sure if I want to spend the time or effort unlocking the portable game in its entirety like I did the original.

Even though it is a good game I think it might be a little over priced say by about 10 bux right now.

A friend of mine recently moved from Texas up to Michigan with his dad (2 houses away from me) and he brought me two presents. First, he brought me The Elder Scrolls Oblivion... which I already had 2 pirated ones lol, but retail is retail. And he also brought me the first GOW game. The most action that GOW game has got is from when my friends clean their pipes out and use the case that it's in as a flat surface that can afford to be dirty.

I've played GOW 2 with high expectations and I was thoroughly unimpressed. Perhaps I just had too high of expectations for it, but still the fact remains. I've owned GOW 1 for over a month now and haven't even played it.

Sorry to hear that you have no appreciation for the game. I have never met anyone that had such a distaste for GOW. Oh well, to each his own. Just out of curiosity what kind of games do you like?

I have observed mostly he likes classic games, older games. He feels new games cannot reach the true glory of the games of the previous generation. From systems such as the SEGA Dreamcast and the N64. And he of coarse likes Pacman. I think I even remember him saying he doesn't care for Halo that much as well. I am sort of the same way, liking a lot of the older games more than the newer ones. It's weird, when you play an older game you feel different, it is more simple and less complex. Anyways thats just a guess :).

I guess I can understand that.

The older games sort of have that feel that some of the parlor games at amusement parks have; you know, the ones that give you a chance to win a prize if you do well.

Maybe it is because all games that are released now are finite and have little if any replay value in general unless some bonuses are added as a reward for playing through to the end.

From what I know of the older games more emphasis was put on skill and less on dazzling the player with the visuals in the early days of video games.

I will admit though it will never become mainstream that I do enjoy 8 bit sound.

OH and one last thing...Ms.Pacman was WAY better than Pacman!
