Close Firefox.

Use use Internet Explorer for a bit. See if you still have CPU issues.

I do not understand how you could have such high CPU cycles and not have it show in the task manager.

I have xp and this is my good computer but it only has 512 ram. I'm always using around 200 avg. But I also have virtual memory up to 5gigs. Its almost always around 900mb. With it my computer would be slow has hell.

Try going into safe mode and see if you have this problem. If so run chkdsk /f from the command prompt and go to bed. If you STILL have problems download Threatfire and uninstall all your other virus and spyware checkers then install Threatfire and run it.

let me know how it goes.

When windows is running there are files that are in the background that are "open" or in use by the computer. There are backups but the "open" files are not properly closed or deleted. If you shut down improperly or your computer locks up these files remain. chkdsk /f finds and takes care of these files.

Think of it as dusting or house cleaning. If your hard drive is in decline there is nothing you can really do. I doubt this is the case with you but it is always a possibility.

If you do not want to run Check Disk ( that is what it is called ) at least download Threatfire and run it. I used to use McAffee until it let me down. Threatfire found 5 bugs that McAffee was unaware of.

Threat fire was free to the public a few months ago and I believe it still is. www.threatfire.com

Threatfire also scans your registry for "rootkits" these are instructions cause Windows to run within a bubble so to speak so if you have a root kit Windows only looks within not outside of that bubble where the rootkit resides.

Of course lightning could have hosed your system and in the end if all else fails you can always format your drive and reinstall windows. If it is still hosed after a fresh install start saving your allowance!

Well I will do that Check Disk (found any easier way to do it go to you My computer click on your harddrive click property's go to one of the tabs and it says check for errors its the same thing just easier) also I will do it tomorrow because it says I have to reboot and when I reboot Ill just shut down my computer.

Another thing I have avg's anti rootkit thing, it saved me from almost losing my WoW account.

Avg is supposed to be good. I will not knock it. I just know that Threatfire works and thought an alternative was worth a try.
