Those are estimates. The page actually says that 16 could have been discovered, 7 for sure maybe 9 others...maybe.

It would take thousands of lifetimes to discover and catalog a billion planets, think about it.

I guess farquezy just read the headline and not the 2-3 sentence "article" lol on the first link. The second link was pretty good reading though. But yea, it would take a VAST amount of time to find a billion planets and categorize them. Heck, it would take a long time to find a billion blades of grass, and we have quite a bit of that stuff on Earth. But then you'd have to categorize it all...

thats true hahahaha
didnt feel like reading it all.
but it mean ti said NASA scientist believe there are billions of planets, and that all i needed :)
yah i saw the part about 16 planets, but im saying these scientist estimated which is kind of proof since ti comes from a person from NASA?

When all of this is taken into account one can get a sense of how rare, even improbable life is. I believe that searching for extraterrestrial life is not as simple as doing the Drake equation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drake_equation ) and then go looking for verification of the results.

HAHAHAH
b*tch look they found a planet like earth with water and harbor light. Maybe right now there is life on it, but since it takes time to reach us we cant see it!

someone i heard wrote:To answer your question, Earth is not the only planet that can surport life. There are many planets out there that have the capacity to support life. Some have even been discovered to contain water. According to scientists, life was created by a perfect combination of heat, energy and other scientific mubo jumbo. This is implying that many planets have the right capacity, they are just not lucky enough to have the perfect situation. The temp has to be just right. Think about a star. The distance from a star that is still under its gravitational pull can be divided into 3 parts. Hot, warm and cold. Assuming that any planets within the warm section have a capacity to support life, we can state that the larger the size of the star, the bigger the warm area, hence the more chance of life.
I hope this helps a little.

Haha, I'm sure aliens would believe in some star God thing. Maybe every time they see an eclipse it could be a visitation from him and he is watching.

@Farq. Well I didn't read the stuff but if it was possible, it would be awesome to be able to go live on a new earth, without pollution and all that. Just to start all over!

#1 I am not your mom, so watch your use of the word b**ch.

#2 Is English really your second language? Because I read: "may harbor life" not "harbor light".

#3 Mars "may harbor life" although a "harbor light" would be a better indication of it. Who cares. Those articles are a year old anyways.

but que damn i was just playing dude chill didnt know you would get all mad and stuff.
But ahhaa i put harbor light lmao i didnt even notice, damn testing this week been taking a tole on me, makes me think all retarded.

anyway, it says that many NASA scientist believe there are other planets that support life! or was that another article?

anyways im just saying the chances of these not being other aliens is 0.00000000001%, i basing this on wild assumptions though. But i mean like all scientist think there are aliens!!

and look at the proof around you of alien life!! its crazy :)

FarQ I hope you read and understand this post completely...

I am not disputing alien life I believe in it. All I am saying is that it is not as common in the universe as we would hope. In one of the articles that you posted it mentioned a planet that orbits a red dwarf star. Those stars are not as hot or bright as our sun and without knowing what the atmosphere of that world is made of (so far there is no way to tell for sure) it is more than likely an ice cube planet. No one knows for sure, I do not have my hopes up.

I posted what I and perhaps violated rule #8 because it is really easy for the name calling and Sh*t to get out of hand. I wanted you and everyone else to see and realize that. I hope next time when you decide to get overly casual with your postings you think about this. There have been over 3000 views in this thread and I do not think many people will log on if the attitude sways toward the ignorant.

This thread is a debate and it is not about who is right or wrong it is about what ifs and opposing views. I respect your view that the universe looks like the cantina in Star Wars. I do not share that view. Unfortunately I feel my view is correct because so far all we can do is speculate and do math I admit I may be wrong and I hope to learn so in my lifetime.

Bottom line, I agree we are not alone. I even believe we were visited in the past but that time is gone I do not believe that we are still being visited or that our government has a treaty with aliens or any of that it just does not make logical sense to me, not right now.

So lets be civil and keep debating!

Well if aliens did come, what species of organisms do you think the aliens would try to communicate with because they are the most intelligent? In one South Park video it was Cows. Then again they were viewing the people of South Park over Cows.

wow i just noticed how stupid and ignorant i've been sounding lol.

But i mean i believe its impossible for there not to be another planet like earth since there are ESTIMATED to be billions of planets
That contradicts my belief that all things must be proven but i dont care :)

My theory is this, as i said before i think

We are a human experiment done by aliens. that sounds retarded but i mean look at old civilizations talking about their serpent gods who made them and the 10th planet in our solar system.
How would these civilizations get such crazy ideas? maybe someone showed them!

If aliens did come without question they would investigate man. What other organism has had as much world wide impact. The real question is how would we receive them. I think governments would view aliens as a threat and be on guard.

Historically speaking, whenever Europeans discovered a new land it was bad news for the original inhabitants. Sumerian tablets describe a time when humanity was enslaved by their "gods" whom came from above. Thankfully those gods are not here anymore if any of that is true.

I do not doubt that earthlings would not hesitate to conquer another world especially if there was a dollar to be made. All of this makes me feel that as much as we want to find intelligent life on other planets we as a race are better off alone.

If you're upset with it farquezy, I can take it down. I just thought it would be a witty title.
