I have a friend whos dad was and alcoholic and would abuse him..... after awhile he was arrested when neighbors reported him. After several years of AA hee found religion with Christianity... and he recently was reunited with my friend who finally has a dad again...... im not trying to change your beleifs on this subject but, i would like you to see that while religon has negative effects the good outweighs the bad :)
actually i have mentioned FEW times how religion helps people

but if i mention it helping, wouldnt i just be contradicting myself and hurting my own argument?
i'm supposed to make it look bad, not make it look good haha. :D

But you know, if you really look at it, in my opinion it hurts more than it helps.
I'm not sure about this im just throwing it out there

I must have missed those few times, i havent been as active on the forums lately :)

your saying atheist become atheist because they want people to hate them?
I became atheist because i started to think for myself and question my reality instead of letting my pastor tell me how to live my life and do things.
And to me religion and god seemed impossible after hours of researching and tihnking

Farq, just because you're a believer of a given religeon doesn't mean you need to live by all the rules, down to the letter.
If so there wouldn't be any christian pornstars(Yes, I went there).

Religeon is truly nothing more than suggestions of how to live your life, not rules that you must follow. Things that you may not know came out of the bible came out of the bible. Like "treat people how you want to be treated"(As you've probably heard since preschool). Another phrase "You only bet what you give" can be assumed as well, heard first for most people in the story where the hen is making bread and none of the other animals help her make it, and in return she does not share the bread with them. You don't have to live your life by the rules of a book, if you did it wouldn't be YOUR LIFE.

actually you do.
You obviously dont read the whole bible.
If you look at it, it clearly states that the word of god must be followed by ALL, and those who do not follow it will be punished!
So if you dont want to be punished you have to live your life they way "god" tells you to, or you burn in hell
it clearly states that in the bible.

Defying the word of god is considered to be the biggest sin, so if you dont follow the things the bible tells you, you are defying the word of god. So this means what is written in the bible must be followed down to the letter

i know dude thats what pisses me off so bad
i see all these people trying to convert me into christianity, while they themselves DONT EVEN KNOW HOW TO BE CHRISTIAN.
I mean they do things considered "sin" SOOOO much and than try to say they are good christains.
I mean there are some great values i learned from being a Christian that i still follow to this day that most christians dont even know of and dont follow

Well everybody sins, thats why you ask for forgiveness. Yea it says that its bad to do all these sins in the Bible, but you can still go to Heaven if you break a commandment, you just gotta know you are sorry. To get into Heaven all you gotta do is believe in your heart. It is your PLACE in heaven that is judged by your works. Someone who is a Christian but doesn't do many good works will live less satisfying than someone who completely set their life in God's hands.

But you don't HAVE to follow everything spot on, everyone sins, it is impossible for a man not to sin in their entire life.

I read from a pretty smart guy that the commandments were not made by God as a means to prevent us from going to heaven or turn us into hypocrites but as a way to just prove that we aren't perfect. They are still rules you need to follow, but they are also meant to show us how much we are imperfect then realizing that we need God. Or it was something along those lines. It's true you can't follow the bible to a T, but no one can. And it's not meant to be followed to a T (imo), but to show us we fall short, and ask God to forgive us for the sins we commit. So, I believe the people that try to "convert" you farq are indeed being Christians. If they follow what the bible teaches, just because they sin doesn't make them a hypocrite neither does that show that they don't know how to be a Christian. If you think that in order to be a Christian that you have to be perfect and never sin then you are horribly mistaken my friend.

Also, in regards to what advent said, I definitely disagree with what you said about being measured by your deeds. By no means do I believe that if person A witnessed to one guy and person B witnessed to 100 then person B will get a mansion in heaven while person A will get a dinky small apartment. I don't believe God will base how you live in heaven on how many good deeds you did, and if you truly believe this then please provide me with proof from the bible.

It's not the religion that causes wars, it's the men who use religion as a means to control people that do.

im like WTF look at you!!!!
and she gets horrible grades.
i dont hate her we really good friends and she is hot, but im saying like wtf how can a person who ignores the words of her religion like that try to so excessively convert me, its unreasonable if you ask me.
I mean she does not follow the moral values of the bible.

O wow lol.
Ok there is a difference between occasional sin and habitual sin. Like we already said no one can go their whole life without sin but habitual sin is a completely different subject. If she did all that and quit and ask forgiveness then that's different but I understand what your saying lol. She seems more to me like the kind of person that thinks they will go to heaven if they just believe that God is real, but still sins like crazy. I really do dislike that sort of behavior.

Dam I accidentally pressed Refresh so I gotta type this again so here it goes:

Nah man I know this stuff :P. Well it is sort of an interpretation, but I guess I can explain it all, it is in the Bible:

In your life there are two judgments, one being when you die. It will determine whether you go to Heaven or Hell depending on what you believe in your heart. The second judgment is called the Great White Throne Judgment, this judgment takes place after Armageddon and the Earth is destroyed. You are judged according to your works and are given a place in Heaven, (or the lake of fire).

Read Revelation 20:11-15

verse 13 states: And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged everyman according to their works.

Explanation:

sea = mankind

So all of mankind were sent to the presence of the Great White throne, and all of the inhabitants of hell were sent here. Every single person is here and are judged according to their works, Saved and Unsaved. Why are the Saved judged for their works? It is assumed that their works will determine their place in Heaven.

Thats it, so yea I believe that Christians will be judged according to their works.
