Since it is wifi, it cant go EVERYWHERE.....but in the next coming years i expect the US to be a lot like the Japan and have wifi mostly everywhere.

Japan isn't as wireless as you think...

I think you should just save your money. It's not what you wanna hear because the iphone/ipod touch is flashy and cool... Thing is you dont really need all that stuff on the go. Trust me... you'll grow out of the AIM phase...

i saw more people with laptops out in the us than here in japan. The thing is cell phones here in japan have email, so instead of stupid 100 character text messages, you have 1000 character emails capable of receiving photos and such.

Plus here in tokyo if you're carrying your laptop around, you're literally carrying it around since most people take the trains and such. Businessmen might have a work computer that they bring back and forth between home and work, but you hardly see them out. College students don't bring laptops to school. Seems like a lot of homes use wired routers, and there's internet cafes EVERYWHERE...

Oh, and cell phones are internet capable as well. No need for wireless really...

If there's accessible wireless, it's usually protected.

3 big ones are AU, Docomo, and Softbank. There's a few smaller companies emerging as the older cell phone technology is becoming increasingly popular as a cheap 2nd cell phone.

Most phones use 3G networks. The cheap phones use older 2G technology and are really only useful in big cities like here in Tokyo. Since talk time is incredibly expensive (priced by the 30 seconds, not even by the minute) many people have 2 phones, one for general use, and another for business/girlfriend/boyfriend/cheap talking solution.

Probably, Japan is one of the biggest importers. The US is fairly cheaper than most of the other big countries.

Haha... The US has some of the cheapest gas...

I can't tell you what the current price is cause I dunno. I don't drive here so I have no reason to keep up on it. But a while ago it was about ¥130 per L, and I think there's 3.6L in a gallon, so that would make it about $4.50 a gallon. As far as driving it's not just gas prices. Parking in many areas is about $3/30 mins, not to mention that there is hardly any parking to begin with... the highway system is privatized so there's toll booths everywhere. Oh, and in Tokyo it costs on average almost $3,000 to get your drivers license.

Can you pay extra to have the internet anywhere?

I have used the iPhone's internet it is better than the psp's cuz you don't get that memory error. Still, I would rather not use a little portable to get on the internet. Although you can watch youtube on the touch, which can keep you occupied.
I thought about getting a touch but its waaay too expensive. I already have a mp3 player and my psp.

you dont have to pay for internet like the psp, and there is a YouTube DOWNLOADER for the ipod touch, so you can dl them directly from internet.

as long as the ipod touch is used, under $200 if its brand new, under $300
