To PSP or not to PSP!!!

Hey all,

Im new to the scene cos i dont have a PSP and im bout to change that but kinda read up on homebrew and downgraders and developed cold feet!!!

I humbly request the great minds (yeah right!) out here to help me out with a predicament. Its this: Im a dirt poor coll grad who scrapes thru everything (no i dont borrow condoms, well... not yet). Thing is im a GAMING FREAK!!! And i need something that doesn weigh a ton on which i can sastisfy all my needs

(1) K here goes, PSP is perfect for me, I want it, I crave it. BUT!!! But im sh*t scared i wont be able to downgrade if i go for one. I sure cant afford games and have never paid for them all my life. So, is there ANY hope for a downgrader for the latest version?
(2) As i understand sony's patching up their fat asses every few months and the UMD writer still being a far dream, wont the hackers run out of BUFFER OVERFLOW or other tactics to get into the PSP? If they finally give up and the PSP development goes to a point where it becomes invulnerable then I will have to get a fat rope (on discount) and hang myself!!!
(3) Is it wise to go for a 1GB or a 2GB memory stick? I read up someplace that sony's gonna combat homebrew by making games larger than 1GB so ppl cant afford 2GB sticks and so will be forced to go legal!!!

As you see, I have a lot on my mind!!! Will appreciate all knowledge that can flow like a river of plasma from the farthest reaches of the universe and.... (oh boy, mind's wandering, again.....)

just buy a used one, so u can make sure its a 1.5 (the hackable firmware) that would save u money, plus have enought to buy memory sticks. I'd advise getting 2 gig. I have a 1gig, and its not enough, cause i install certain games cough*ISO!cough!

lol buy the dam gretzky pack lol... thats what i got.. no diff from any other psp it just comes wtih spider man 2 and gretzky and no usb chord... it comes running 1.0 so jus update to 1.50 plus i just got mine so it cant be that hard to find lol...but thats just me and how i got lucky i supose... it's considerably a gamble...Soooo if your that obsessed with getting one and you have no trouble getting games (which you don't pay for acording to you) so if you buy a psp and its 1.0 or 1.5 hey you got lucky... but if you do get one with a higher grade firm ware... oh well least you can get some one else to buy you games or sum thin so i say go for it..

Yup, among other concerns, the most daunting is that i wont be able to downgrade. I know you can hack something only if you can get into it. If sony keeps one-upping the hackers by releasing PSP with new version firmware that cannot be hacked then i guess ive to shell out big bucks for legal gmaes huh???

That is what Sony is aiming for I think. Making really good gamews that people can't resist and the game would be running on firmware 2.60 or so and then we all upgrade! It's all a trap...

ebay has a lot of new 1.5 psps, and one time i saw one that was a penny buy it now.... the only thing wast that shipping was $249.98!!!

lol thats funny, um like it said near the bottom of this homepage if u check theletter on the box of the psp it will tell you what version firmware it is, if not it's on ebay!

I have to burst your bubble but I bought the gretzky pack too and it was 1.5, but lots of people are getting ones like u and me but now a days and now, they have either 2.5 in em, and 2.6. But they still sell 1.51 and 1.52 still.

how long ago did you get your gretzky pack alimobeer?

Thats the thing mailas i got mine for christmas 2005, and it was running firmware 1.00 sooo they're can't be that many running new firm ware if i just got mine which wasjust in stock a few days before christmas.

Sony's releasing 4 and 8 gb variants of their memory stick.
Equation:
4/8GB=lots o space=firmware upgrade=a pain in the donkey for hacking cos we're still in the age of "unhackable" v2.6... boo hoo

yeah those new memory sticks have been on the homepage.. and 2.6 has been hacked, and homebrew is now on it.. just check the homepage.
