Processor Woes

Hey everyone....My Dell laptop is acting up here lately.

I have a Core 2 Duo processor (1.86 ghz) and here lately i can be doing everyday tasks** and everything starts to freeze up. I CTR,ALT,Delete and check whats happening and it shows 100% processor use. After a like 8 minutes it calms down a little and goes down (barely but usable).

Any ideas whats going on? I got 2Gb of ram and never exceed it so i know its not that or a virus.

FireFox
Media Player (iTunes makes it act up even more)
Vista Home Premium (Ha Ha...Thats a joke...wish i could afford a Mac..Will be hackintoshing tonight)

Did it just start randomly acting up, like was it normal before this started happening?

My computer for a while there started lagging just a hair, very weird. So I just decided to scan for viruses, use tweaknow's registry cleaner and then there ram utility to clear up ram. Left computer on for a while and eventually it's back to normal.

But if your processor is at 100% then RAM isn't an issue. Do you have the power options set to maximum performance? (Or whatever it is called, whatever the max performance one is).

1. Goto Start > Accessories > system Tools >Disk Clean-up
2. Goto Firefox > Tools > Clear Private data
3. Goto IE > Delete Browsing History
4. Goto Start > Accessories > System Tools> Disk Defrag

After that see if the problem Persists.

Yep it's not a hardware problem but you should get it taken care of before it burns up your processor.

@ Blackz, that is just for internet browsers and moving data closer together on the hard drive, that won't change his proc usage as he said he was running multiple programs, namely iTunes.

@Satxx, that's why I said run a AV ;) to check for spyware or anything else malicious.

and finally @des, the only way he is going to burn up the proc is if he overclocks it. A proc is made to be processing information 24/7, in fact Windows uses an Idle process while you aren't doing anything so the proc is still doing something.

Easiest thing to try first is power options, and then scan for malicious data. If that still doesn't work try cutting down on start up programs in msconfig.
