Pand batt, FAT. Spark + smoke?

I purchased a new battery, my psp has been bricked for ages seeing as I gave up on it after nobody could unbrick it. So I decided to hardmod my old battery. I have yet to create the magic stick and try it out. My cybershot camera is recharging, so it will take awhile before I can work on the magic stick.
It took me half an hour to pop the cap, you can find scratches on the side of the battery to prove my labor.
A similar battery model to the one I "fixed".

I removed the proper pin with a needle, however I believe I short circuited the battery by touching the neighbouring pin during my efforts, fortunately for me I wrapped the needle in a silk cloth beforehand. A small mute spark with a bit of stinky smoke was the output of this mistake. So now their are many opinions floating around the net as to whether the battery would now be considered useless or not. I would like someone's opinion. Have I successdully created a pandora's battery or a recyclable object. I will be anticipating a response thanks.

Most likely you just fried the circuits for your battery if you saw smoke rise after touching 2 pins together. But it wouldnt hurt to complete the process and see if it will still work.

On the up side, i live in the toronto area and i could make possibly use my battery and mms on your psp. What part of toronto are you from?

I live near bathurst and finch, is it worth spending another 40 on a battery to create a pandora?

edit: adding on towards your question. When I would put it in the psp. It would not show me the "random characters" but it would keep the psp on until the battery would die. it would not let me shut off the psp using the switch.

well, was that your only battery? If so youre going to need to get a new battery regardless, its your choice whether to try and hardmod the next battery or not though.

If that wasnt your only battery, then your better off keeping that one safe and i'll come bring your psp back to life for $25 (Gas + $10)...saves you $15.

What do you mean by random characters? When you pop in the battery without the magic memory stick, it will automatically turn the psp on but will do nothing. To get anything to happen you have to have the magic memory stick in before you put the battery in. If your memory stick has been created properly, then the battery should load the files from it. If they don't load then you messed up the battery and it won't work.

You can have someone like staxx do it for you, but honestly, having the battery and memory stick is a good thing... just in case something happens you won't have to rely on anyone.

Update: Ive created the hardmod with the 2.2amp battery I purchased yesterday, Ive successfully unbricked my psp, and am either planning to repair the original battery (1.8amps) or to purchase another 2.2 amp, as i am currently running my psp on the ac adapter.

Edit. Using my original battery (1.8 amps) I can play normally without the ac adapter. However the only difference is that I cannot boot the psp while the battery is in use. I must first boot the psp on the ac adapter before I can insert the battery for portable use.

I really need a fix for that battery, perhaps no one could determine that from my previous post. Would anyone care for advice?
My battery that I "fried" still technically works. If I were to boot it with no ac adapter there would be no image on the screen, the green power button would illuminate as well as the other two LEDs on the opposite side. However If I were to boot the PSP through the ac adapter without the battery, then place the battery and remove the ac adapter I would successfully be using my psp with a stable charge for 2+ or so hours.

I apologize for the consecutive posts but my thread was dying.

Answer is you killed your battery. You fried something on the circuit board inside the battery, and it is not going to function correcty anymore. Either use it as it is, or throw it away.

I was using my psp this morning and when I booted it up I noticed something odd with the battery I was using (my original attempt at the pandora), so I had to make sure for myself. I stick in a magic memory and stick in the battery. Its a pandora? It independantly decided to become a pandora, I think it realized I was upset with it, its tough love. This with all due honesty isn't a bad turn of events, I have an unnecessary ammount of pandoras but thats fine.
Anyways thanks to everyone who responded on this topic in an attempt to solve my problem. Your efforts are appreciated.
