need help putting 3.90m33 on friend's slim psp

I need some help with getting 3.90 on my friend's slim psp. I wanted to use this tutorial: http://psp.brewology.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10949 but I had some questions first

I have a psp slim with cfw 3.90m33-3 on it, and he just bought a brand new psp slim that came with a 2gb stick

:?: If I do all the steps in this tutorial will I be able to get 3.90m33 on his psp?

:?: Why does the tutorial say:

"In order to install 3.90 M33 Firmware you will need the following:
* ......... or a PSP-200* (AKA Slim PSP) running 3.60-M33 or higher."

because I read through the whole tutorial and i don't see where a second psp slim would come into play?

:?: I don't understand the whole "magic memory stick" thing. Do I have to use the memory stick from my psp (my 8GB one) in my friend's psp in order to make this work out?

:?: Is there anything else I need to know or do in order to put cfw 3.90m33 on my friend's psp? I've checked out some other tutorials but I'm so confused on which one to use b/c the one for making a pandora battery says you have to have a fat psp's battery, plus I just want the most updated and easiest way of doing this.

P.S. I'm not worried about getting the latest firmware on both psp's, I just want 3.90m33 for now.

Thanks for the help

well...the way the second psp already running custom firmware comes into play is in the creation of pandoras battery. You'll need to use a program called upms (ultimate pandora's magic stick). You'll need to use a phat battery though as the slims arent modable in this fashion (unless of course youre interested in taking it apart and tinkering around a bit) This will install everything needed to create the pandora battery and magic memory stick. Once you have that out of the way, all you need to do is insert the phat battery and magic stick into your friends psp and install the custom firmware.

so the only way to use cfw is with a phat battery in the psp? I don't understand how my black slim one uses a slim battery though...

my old silver slim psp (bricked) was using a slim psp battery, i gave it to one of the guys on here and he put 3.71m33 on it...and my current black slim psp has custom firmware on it and a slim battery. I don't think either were tinkered with or taken apart (i could be wrong though)

Is the battery in my psp considered a pandora's battery since i have custom firmware on my psp?

I just took a look at this post: http://psp.brewology.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11076

do you think i can just do that to his battery and make a magic memory stick and install the cfw? i'm okay with taking apart the battery, it doesn't look too difficult, plus my friend is an electrician so i bet he knows how to fix it if i mess it up (which i won't cuz i'm amazing)....

EDIT: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ciuNi7vp2g

If anyone wants to know how to go from Original firmware 4.01 to 4.01M33 or put cfw on a slim psp, this vid is the one to watch

Thats not what i said...i said that you need to use a phat battery because the slim battery cant be turned into a pandora battery unless you take it apart and hardmod it.

They werent taken apart...again he used his own pandora battery which would have been a phat and brought you to custom firmware with it. The pandora battery is only used to override the ipl (initial program load) and cannot be used as a normal battery. Once you've finished overriding the ipl you just use a regular battery to use your psp as you regularly would.

no, your battery is just a regular battery. again, a pandora battery is something that has been modded to override your systems ipl.

Yes and No...You could do it, that would be what i was talking about in my previous post about having to take the slim battery apart to hardmod it. Just that the link you're referring to is for a phat battery. the slims battery circuitry is slightly different. I believe the stuff is reversed for it, i can look for a guide for the slim pandora hardmod for you though if you can't find one.
