So, there's modern weapons and futuristic weapons.

Modern and future weapons eh?

How will you handle nukes?

Okay, here's some stuff we've decided.

> Every day, you gain an extra 1 or 2 really small things like an extra soldier or maybe you spontaniously get an extra 5 dollars or something. Nothing too big. Rarely, you'll get really good stuff. This'll get people to log on a lot because you have to log in to get the extra stuff. We're also thinking about if you haven't signed on in 4 days or so, you're country will pause so that you can't get money for anything until you log back on. It'll get people to log on once in a while.
> Random events occur, well, randomly. You get bad things and good things. We're thinking of adding in random natural disasters. Fire, flood, drought, hurricane, earthquake, etc.
> You gain land by taking other land. Maybe a random event that occurs super rarely is 'discovering a remote island' AKA getting a little bit more land.
> Your army's size is limited by the size of your country. And usually, your army's strength is limited by it's size.
> Once reaching a certain size/level, you can buy different weapons or perks. There are long-term perks and short-term perks such as all your ground troops become a tiny bit stronger.
> Because you will only be able to attack countries that are close to the same size, WMD's such as nukes won't do as much damage to others compared to smaller countries. Think of it as a pokemon battle. Two level 20's fighting would take as long as two level 100's fighting. Don't get me wrong, they'd do a lot, but you can't rely just on nukes. Plus, they'd cost a lot and there'd be different degrees of strengths in them.

Good points, remember that you need catchy background music too!

Lmfao.
It's web based, people would just play whatever music they want to in the background while playing.

We won't get a playable version for a month or so.
Right now, we're working on a battle system and it's not wanting to cooperate.
Lol.
But we will need beta tester, however.

I think you should program in certain variables like stock markets and disease outbreaks and so forth.

You need a system of control. You should view this as a social experiment. There needs to be a way to compete fairly. Anyone who takes a game like this even somewhat more seriously than the next person is going to be infinitely more powerful, especially if the less-motivated person doesn't log in often.

Yes, there'll be npc's. We haven't decided if you can take land from them or not. We're leaning on yes.
And yes, there will be alliances. Actually, two major factions. You can also be independent from the factions if you want to.
Each of the three sides (Troy's Alliance, Independent, and the other major alliance that I forgot the name of) have different stats for things you can buy and sometimes different things you can buy.
You can also create alliances among other players.

We've totally thought of that.
The more someone is logged on, the faster they will level up and such.

We're going to include random variables like you stated. Hurricanes, floods, droughts, fires, earthquakes, tornados. However, I really like the idea of disease outbreaks. We haven't even thought of that. We'll defenately have it in the game.
It could easily kill a certain amount or percentage of your population and ground troops.
Maybe we can even include a perk that costs 400,000 dollars or something that's called 'medical research fund' that prevents disease outbreak from ever happening. Lol, you really got me excited with this idea!
We're not going to have stock market crashes, however. You can go bankrupt and loose everything, but it'll be determined solely on the player or others if they take your stuff.

You are severely limiting the people that will play by giving so many perks to people that play a lot. The casual gamer is going to throw this away faster than moldy bread.

Give the people that play a lot perks, but not perks that will allow them to be powerful. Give them fancy looking stuff, or maybe ways to get land but not grow powerful, otherwise you'll have 10 people that are obsessed with the game ruling your virtual world.

If you do incorporate a mechanism for disease I think it should not be random. Countries should invest in health care and sanitation. Those that lack should suffer these outbreaks. Just a thought.

I'm not sure you're understanding my use of the word perk, brentbizzle.
I mean, you play the game. You level up and get land/population/bigger army/money.
You use the money to buy armies. You use the armies to take over land. You need land to have more people/army stuff. Blah blah blah.
You can also use money to buy 'perks.'
Perks are one-time buys. You don't need to do anything but buy them and you get thier effects.
An example will be buying a '5% Cash Increase' that will increase your money and then goes away.
Another example will be buying
There's not going to be like 100 perks or anything, just 5 or 6. They're unlockables kinda. Unlockables you have to buy once you unlock them.
Don't worry about the obsessive players, you can only play against people that have close to the same army size, level and playing time as you.
I think we should make it so you can attack any country that would be better than you if you wanted to for PvP. What do you guys think about that?

@ que13x:
I love what you're saying, but that's taking the game into another direction than what we're trying to accomplish.
That's too much like Sim City type of game. I want to do your idea, but I don't want it to be something that has to be closely monitored everyday. It would be too much to sit and watch everyday.
