Graphics Card Help

Hi so my old custom built PC's graphics card is dead and has been dead for some time. Its a Forsa Nvidia GF 6200A 256MB DDR it has a DVI, VGA and S-Video (its a PCI graphics card). And I need the computer back (going to start a server or create a NAS out of it or something) and want to know if this graphics card will work in it. ASUS EN8400GS SILENT/HTP/256M GeForce 8400 GS 256 MB 64-bit GDDR2 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready Video Card http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/ ... 2304-00-20 I completely forget what is in my computer so I am not sure if it will work or not like I don't know if my motherboard or power supply could take it, but do you think it will work (other then all of the other problems that I could end up having)? I know Amazon as a 30 Day return thing so if it doesn't I could just return it but what do you think?

Well could you possibly tell us the type of motherboard or power supply in it? The 8400 GS really doesn't need many resources, but it is a little different then a 6200. If it is custom built, I would say it'll work though because I doubt that the psu would be below like 350W minimum, which I ran a 8400GS with a stock like 400W psu with no problem. But you do however, need to make sure at least the motherboard has a PCIE x16 slot on it.

For the most part, there aren't compatibility issues with graphics cards. You need to have the proper slot open for one (PCI vs PCIe) and a power supply that can handle everything for your computer. Thats about it. Other than that, get whatever you want.

it'll work. You could run that on any PC with a PCI slot...

Errr, I thought i was going to work so i looked up the 512mb one which looks like this

Um...no. That slot you have on your motherboard is called a AGP slot. So no, it will not work. You either have to find a PCI supported card or an AGP supported card.

I haven't done or kept up with computers since I built that in like 06. So I know like nothing, so I will just have to look for a normal PCI graphics card, Okay then will do and when I find one I will post it and see if II can use it or not. So I am guessing (I didn't even know what was in it, till I read it again) I will need a bigger PSU as I am guessing 135 Watts isn't good enough, especially for a new graphics card. What would you recommend?

yes thos will definatly work, but If I were you, I'd just buy a new motherboard. It'll be worth the investment, trust me.
