New Noob. Help Please.

Hey guys n gals, i am new at this, i am a previous modder of the PSP, n 360. So i have a few questions,

1. I have no bought a Wii yet, i plan to buy a brand new one soon. I currently won't know what FW is in it. Are all the FW up to this date hackable with the HBC, and all used thru the Zelda hack, in the same process and procedure. And if so can all the packages for each FW be downloaded here. Along with a Down grader in case i need to DG.

2. After i install the HBC, it will be black with no apps or games or nothing like that. Is there a program i can DL to auto add games, n apps, to the SD, in a clean format. Or on the root of the SD card, D:/ ........ can i just make a new folder named for the program i use like a gba emu. D:/GBA Emulator, and put the gba emulator .elf, in that folder root, and make a roms folder, and be all good. Does it automatically make the saves folder, n settings. Also after i install HBC can i wipe the SD card ???

3. What is an .elf n .dol file, is it a special executable for the wii, that is for specific items, like .elf is games, and .dol is applications, and if not, which is better to use, and if there the same, do they work the same, put in the same folder n such.

4. I want to install the newest modchip, and be able to play DVD's, so i need to install dvdx, mplayer, and patchmii, and how dangerious is installing patchmii.

5. What is patchmii, bootmii, hackmii. Like patchmii is for modchips, what does it help with on it. And for the other too what do they do. A WAD file, is a channel on the wii menu right, and there are diffrent country WADs like from japan n europe.

6. bootmii, is incase it bricks, by installing updates, by like repairing the NAND file, but what if i, which i will, turn off updates from game disc, thru the modchip, and system update, which i need to know how to do that. Also is where does the NAND file save too, and after i install like bootmii does it stay on the SD card with my NAND back up. And if i brick ill be back to ask how to unbrick.

I really appreciate all the help that all u can provide for me, i will try no to be stupid about it and all, and not that good on searching, especially when there are more that one answer or someone has a bad experience with one. I tend to second guess after that.

For one please say you arn't buying a wii From nintendo because your gona be F**ked modding it as they are sortof unmoddable without a modship + unsoftmodable. Ok i'm not aloud to tell you about Dvd backups because its illegal but are pm you about it because i know alot about it.
I also suggest you read the rules.

Bootmii - bootmii is a product of marcan and bushing and team tizzers blood sweat and graft* ye i got it wrong lol* If you have a wii after half way through 2008 you cannot install bootmii as boot 2 because they replaced the boot1 meaning its impossible.
Most of the new wiis are lu64 i believe and have boot2v4 basicly meaning they are currently softmodable.

Patchmii - i have little experience with but i believe its a application that just gives you options to exploit your wii in other ways.


Just to tell you again if you buy a new wii FROM nintendo you will not be able to use bootmii so but one off EBAY or a friend and make damn sure its before june 2008 i believe.

Also bootmii saves the nand file to the front of your sd card so i would recommond getting 2 sd cards, 1 2 gig. 1 *your choice*
Also system updates are optinal meaning you actualy have to press "ok" for them to happon so you don't need to worry if you do also.
If you do system update you can just use your nand backup to go back.

Also you don't need a modchip to play backups but i will pm you the rest.

Also i just read some more questions, Bootmii is a product of Hackmii, Hackmii is a blog off what Bushing and marcan and the team get up to.
Bootmii isnt a channel, actualy its better then that, bootmii is flashed into the nand of your wii meaning its UNDELETABLE BY NINTENDO! SO basicly as long as YOU have bootmii your bluddy safe.

Also if you are buying a new wii from nintendo i would get a good modchip with recovery support. But as i previously said you don't need one to play DVD backups.


Your SD card question: Yes their is a application for that its the Homebrew Browser but, it doesnt give you every app so you will still need to search google for yourself

IF YOUR BUT A NEW WII YOU MAY NOT BE ABLE TO SOFTMOD IT AND INSTALL BOOTMII!

I didn't realize i had put about dvd backups, if ur talking about where it says i want to buy a modchip and play dvds, i ment is im putting a mod chip in it, and want to be able to also use the HBC and play my movie dvd's on teh wii.

So don't buy a new wii, buy something used, or off ebay that mas made before 08. The modchip im getting is the new drivekey. And it sound like this is too much to worry about, for what im wanting to be able to help with, i know all about backups n imports with the mod chip n all, i just want to install the HBC to be able to, use AR, back up n restore saves for wii n gc, have snes, gba, gbc, genesis, emulators, and dvd movie playback, usb support, and some more apps to transfer stuff, n restore n like that.

Ok. So you want to be able to gets saves with is easy with 1 application someone made.
you want to be able to backup and restore your nand which will be easy.
And you want to play homebrew games which is even easier.
Get homebrew browser and you can do the 1st item and the last
And get bootmii for the 2nd.
