memory cards2

so now that sony is coming out with 8 gig (which i don't know release date, does anyone?) and the umds can only hold 1.8 gigs does that mean that sony can just use the memory cards to put some game on it? seems kinda inconvenient to have 8 gigs on a tiny memory card and then only 1.8 gigs on a tiny, yet big UMD

Yeah, the more that I think about it, it seems like Sony is kind of encouraging ISOs and homebrew and emulators with the new 8 gig memory stick. I mean like who really needs all of that memory. Unless Sony thinks that a lot of people want to put a TON of movies and songs on their PSP, this is really a great opportunity for people to now put on more homebrew on there PSP. But now keep in mind how that there might be a firmware upgrade with the 8 gigs, so that kind of prevents all homebrew from being put onto the memory stick, but once hackers find a way to pass through that update, that memory stick will probably used mostly for ISOs and homebrew. What do you guys think.

yeah man and like what if the new update has flash support stuff THAT WOULD BE TEMPTING, TO UPGRADE! but yeah they sort of are i just put like funny videos on my memory stick and some like 40 songs mp3 of coarse but what if the new firmware (if any, probably) has a gigantic hole in it for hackers to take advantage of it like for some reason they rushed it...???

i think they are doing it to compete with the IPod video... psp's were the only thing that played movies and had bunch of games and then the ipod video came in and now sony has to come back with music capabilities and movies.. (my opinion)

can they really just make an update that lets you listen to your music and surf the web at the same time? i thought the psp could only do like one thing? wouldn't they have to update the hardware?

iPod Killer!

Its fairly common sense to expect sony to do this... the 8 gigs are definitely to one up all PSP users so they can still flaunt their stuff in front o all thjose iPod groupies! But seriously, that is the only logical explaination cos i dont think a big fat UMD's gonna look pretty when compared to a tiny card. Ah well, maybe sony's mind is wandering into uncharted territories, making a bold move to make the PSP a multi-function device. WHEN DOING THIS THEY WILL SLIP UP SOMEWHERE AND OUR HACKERS WILL TEAR THE PSP APART!!! Aside from the obvious, i think Sony's filled with a large number of highly paid idiots who release 8gb mem cards and end up competing with their own mp3 players division!!! ha ha ha IDIOTS

But i doubt 8 gig is going to be cheap. If it was cheap, say around 300-500, then the 1GB and 2GB would have to be reduced down to 40 bucks or so. Or if it was 1000 or so, then 1GB and 2GB would have to be reduced even lower than it is, probaly to 100 dollars. Which i doubt. My guess is that the 8 gig is going to be 799.

If you say who needs that much memory than you obviously don't have any thing to put on your psp to begin with.... Like i have a 2 and its no where near enough to hold all my south park and trailer park boys and music.

Hey alimobeer, what do you use to rip your DVDs, because if you use dvdshrik, you can make the videos take up even less memory by deleting some un-needed features like the different languages used and other things that you wouldn't use.

Yeah, but once those 8 gig memory sticks are out, people will be loading them with everything!
Does anyone think that the 4gb sticks will be worth buying?

It's really none of your business what, or how people use their memory so i wouldn't get concerned if i were you... As for me i think that the 4gb is straight up worth it.
