Windows 7, while better than Vista, is still a bit of a memory hog when it comes to visualizations. So I boot up XP and enjoy lots of free RAM to use for my virtual machines.
Linux is a novelty OS. The only reason most people have it is just to say "I use Linux." There's a reason people don't pay for it...
