I like that cause it's so true.

I'd like to think Windows 7 may work out this time the way Windows98 laid Win95 to rest.

I had the beta, and from what I saw I never wanted to go back to Vista. (Except for a couple compatibility issues.)

Oh, and you might want to decide quickly, because the people on the other boat might not be so noble.

Win 7 is very good at finding drivers on its own

I have enjoyed Win7's auto-driver finder feature thingy so far. I pretty much have a very new computer setup and it has no problems finding the appropriate drivers for me, but I can only speak for very new hardware. I haven't heard of Win7 not being able to support older hardware as well, but it's a possibility.

My laptop was built for XP. I wiped my HDD clean and installed 7. No problems. I have since partitioned and am dual booting XP. XP couldn't find most of my drivers. Had to manually install by downloading them from dell.

I'm sure Windows 7 has what you need. My laptop is older than yours and running fine. Even installed the drivers for my memory card reader. The only one it didn't pick up was the touchpad one. Installed a generic one so it worked, but didn't have the advanced features like scrolling by using the side of the touchpad and such.

Just partition and give it a shot. If it works, backup and wipe. If it doesn't, wipe the partition and at least you know.

You can probably find one that works with the advanced features for you with minimal searching. I'd try the official drivers first from the manufacturer's website but other than that, "generic" drivers with advanced touchpad features are beginning to be somewhat common nowadays.

I have the driver... I was just pointing out that was the only one 7 didn't pick up right away.

I just installed 7 on my gf's laptop that only has 512MB of ram. It's a bit laggy here and there depending on the program, but its still just as functional as XP was! That's with HALF the recommended amount of ram.
