Well i read a article about how 4/5 people who learned spanish in high school completely forgot before their last year in college.
The reason i think its useless to learn a second language when you know english is because english is the universal language, it has well over 1 billion speakers and used for any business transaction.
Now you could make a very good case for learning spanish, but for me its a waste of time because as i said before i believe we could spend that same time learning science and technology which are much for relevant to our daily lives.

now i wont deny that learning a second language can lead to greater brain functionality, but i just think in todays society it is very useless if you already know english.
Well over 130 countries teach english in their school, even IN IRAN, WHERE THE GOVERNMENT DESPISES AMERICA THEY STILL REQUIRE YOU TAKE LEARN ENGLISH!!!

ALSO : I believe that a person should learn the language of the country he staying in, cause otherwise he'd be making it a hall of a job for other people to understand him.

For Spanish and German, you learn to associate certain words with others and make these unconscious connections that cannot be forgotten unless you take a heavy trip on acid. These connections allow you to think more abstractly and create more vivid schemas for events, accounts, scenarios, and everything else. You create associations and use grouping a lot easier and faster- Therefore, you think more efficiently.

And 130 countries teach English? Well, way over 130 teach Spanish and Chinese. Chinese is the most spoken language. (Not widest, but most spoken.)

Well i know 2 language fluently and learning my third, and i completely agree with you.
But that still to me doesnt justify forcing students to learn it.
