A xacto knife is a terrible idea >.< Not to mention would take you a week to cut through the xbox case. If it was me I would have instead cut a square out of the side of the xbox, and use the square plastic cut from the case to cut each piece of that design out and then stick it on the plexi glass to sort've create like a inverted design then what I believe you are trying to do.

You would have a lot more plastic to work with, and definitely let you actually see the inside of the xbox ;)

It's not the religion that causes wars, it's the men who use religion as a means to control people that do.

Which is a job that an xacto might be appropriate for. For Xbox 360 case modding, at least on this scale, it is not.

Everyone I know uses a dremel for any console case modding, along with other stuff. I seriously think the best investment I've made in the past few years is buying a dremel :)

None the less, the only thing I have ever used a xacto knife for in relation to xbox 360's is to disassemble the case. Use a dremel to cut it out, (or an actual machine like a cnc or something) and then some files(sp?) to make it smooth and paint.

I actually thought about this, too. However, the laser would blacken the areas that it cuts and make these weird melting marks for edging.
Not too appealing.
