I do agree with DPM, its quite sad how simple it would be to fix it though, I just don't understand why instead of waiting 4 years to start buying smaller gpu/cpu to decrease heat when they could have just used a different mounting system, more standoffs, something. Granted production would slow down some due to the factory workers having to put in a few more screws >.< That sort of thing really makes me doubt who in this world know what they are talking about, or truly understand computers. If those engineers are getting paid so much money to put out equipment like this, then why must I go to college to compete with them for their job? At least I would put out something with a little better design then some x-clamps.

At least it is getting repaired for free, are you planning on getting a newer system though?

A lot of people plan to buy a new system when it hits the fan even if they can get it fixed, because there is a strong chance that it will mess up again. If my PS3 got the YLOD then I would definitely buy a new one in case it FUBAR's again.

I wasnt exactly sure what went wrong. Thanks man. So will they replace it with a new "jasper" GPU or what? While they are in there will they replace anything else to make sure future problems dont arise? I doubt it it but i hope so.

@Airplanes- I deleted your PS3 Statement. The OP specifically said to not spark a PS3 or Xbox 360 debate in his thread. That starts them.

Nope, chances are they'll just give you a refurbished system.

Eh, not everything is a reflow error though. Lots of issues can happen with the GPU or video output.

First of all, I don't want to spark debate between modern game systems so I don't want anybody to respond to me like I am, and I know this thread isn't meant to spark debate between consoles but what in the world is Microsoft doing? I don't see how they can faithfully stand by computer products when they make SOOOO MANY bad computers (Xbox 360's). Almost every issue with RROD involves either the CPU or GPU being faulty or having faulty mounting. Solution? Spend $3 more and get higher quality heatsinks and maybe a few standoffs near the processor and graphics processor to help maintain a rigid motherboard instead of allowing the things to flex all over the place until they fail. I just don't get why they can't make them better. If I bought an Xbox 360 today I'd immediately take it apart and "fix it in advance" - something I shouldn't even have to consider. Dethklok mentions he's had tons of RROD's which require opening the box and fixing it or sending it away for fixing/ replacement. I mean... how old is the 360? My Sega Genesis hasn't ever needed to be opened once. Never even failed. My Sear's Pong unit made in 1975 still works 35 years after the fact without ever needing repair... but Microsoft, one of the richest computer-related companies that constantly sets new standards in the industry can't figure out how to make a friggin' Xbox.

Again, this post is clearly aimed at expressing my dissatisfaction with Microsoft's ability to create a quality unit - not to say that the PS3 or Wii are better because of this because that's just not true. I am, however, stating officially for the record that the Sega Genesis is better.

-DarkPacMan77-

I'd say a good 98% of the time the errors that xbox gives are indeed in need of a good old reflow.

I completely share your frustration with the lack of thought behind making a quality gaming system though. All my older systems work perfectly fine as well, this is indeed the only system i've owned to date that has ever broken down on me. By the way though they originally had the design right with better heatsinks but they ended up going with the crappy ones to compensate for room to add the dvd drive.
