I don't always think people should trust wikipedia, you know with the fact that anyone in the world can edit it.

A prediction is worthless unless it is clear on what is being brought to light.

Let's not turn this into a religious debate here but it is the same issue that I have with the bible, a statement is made then people quarrel over what it really means. I pay no more attention to Nostradamus anymore than I do my horoscope but some people (no one in mind here) still cling to these so called oracles as if they could help divine some insight into everyone's future.

Live your life and if the world "ends" realize that there is nothing you could ever do to stop it.

If you want to be surrounded by virgins become Muslim

IF you want to be treated like a child be Christian.

If you want to come back as a cow become Hindu etc.

Some of Nostradamus' stuff is interesting, yes, but like que says, take it with a grain of salt. At the same rate, he did mention some really interesting things about Hitler and "tyranny". He predicted the "region" of his birth, a particular year (1943 or 44 or something) for very bad things to happen, and I think even said that the man's name would be "Hister", which is undeniably close to "Hitler".

But it's also just mumbo jumbo because everything he said is wrong and about a quarter of what he said is "plausible" and very open to interpretation in other means. Interesting though, yes, I agree ;)

Edgar Cayce was the most accurate of all. Google him sometime.

Also, the conversion of the date is said to be wrong by a lot of people... Supposedly there were a lot of decimal places screwed up resulting in this claim. The most probably converted year for the end of the world by the Mayans' claims would be 4.134105 × 10^28 . (By the way, that's a HUGE number)
Besides, can someone show me where the Mayans say that it'll be the end of the world?

It isn't really about the date so much as it is about an astronomical alignment.

The alignment occurs every 26,000 years regardless of which calendar you favor. That is the marker, the alignment not the dates.

So if you are with the crowd that believes the earth is 4.5 billion years old then you know this has happened before.

Anyone think the whole "2012-end-of-the-world" stuff is really just related to the age of Pisces coming to an end and the age of Aquarius beginning? As in, a transition of ... well... crap. I want to say "solar messiahs" because I think like an Agnostic but I don't want to go that route. But like... couldn't this just be the end of one age as a TRANSITION to the next rather than some sort of cataclysmic event?

I'm not bringing religion into the picture, but when I say "solar messiah", I am referring to Jesus in the age of Pisces (fish). Many people believe the Bible to be a textual representation about how astronomy is explained, that we will enter into a new age without a "solar messiah" or having a "New Bible" type of thing created. It's a pretty Pagan thought process but it makes some people turn their head a second time when they have a hard time realizing that the world will end in 2 years now.
