it just takes practice really try http://www.good-tutorials.com they have sum good brush tuts.

you click on the brush tool then do your brushes

i know how to use brushes etc but i jus dunno how to use them to get those super-cool backgrounds that most o you guys do...

just do layer by layer then do soft light or overlay options it will look good at the end
