Ok, lets say I wanted to put you're avatar in an image with text.
Heres the current picture:
http://www.brewology.com/forum/avatars/ ... df251c.jpg

This is called a link or a url to the image.
Once you have copied this link (CTRl + C) you then have to type this:
[img]
after you have typed that, put the link after it like this:
[img]http://www.brewology.com/forum/avatars/51534197744b5f97df251c.jpg
once you have done that, put another img thing after but instead, this time, put a slash behing it like this:
[/img]

So it should go [img]thelink[/img]
