edit icons on your computer?

is there a way to edit the icons on my computer desktop to something other then what is given if i wwant to change the piture of it?

i think u can only do it for folders...

- right click the folder u want to change the icon
- go to Properties
- go to the costomize tab
- should be the last option on the window

(thats for windows xp on a PC) if u have a mac u may be screwed

Thats only for programs or things that have came with you're computer when you got it.
You can do it for others too, only if they are shortcuts. Just right click on it, click properties, go to shortcut tab, and click Change Icon.
Easy.

you can edit it through the registry.

or rite click and edit the pic, btw u can also change the name of the recycle bin and the 'start' in the start button. btw, whats the key to edit the text "start"?

I forgot the name, but I have a friend who has an excellent program for just this thing... I will look into it, and I beleive the program is free.

no, well yea u can dl xp themes but i know a kid who made his start button read "virus" instead of start, he said reg hack, i just dont know what keys.

u should try going to www.wincustomize.com its got lots of themes and stuff lots of em r really nyce
but u gotta get some software to make em work like Windowblinds-go here to get it www.stardock.com

It is quite easy on a mac, you can change any icon whether it be a folder, document, application, external device, HDD, etc. Simply take the picture you want to use as an icon and right-click it (control-click it if you have a one-button mouse) select "Get info" then click on the picture in the square at the top of the window and once it's hilighted hit command-c. Now right click the icon you want to change and select "get info" again. Single click the picture in the top of this window and pres command+V and youre done. There is an app called pixidex which has thousands of icons available and allows drag and drop icon changing thats easy to use as well.[/code]
