TA-082 Motherboard...

Hi there, first post here and im interested in getting a PSP MAINLY because of the mind boggling homebrew capabilties of it. Portable CPS2 and Neo alone makes me want to buy it.

Unfortunately, the 'infamous' TA-082 motherboard in some PSPs is completely barred from downgrading to 1.5 and I'll be kicking myself for weeks if I end up with one of those...All the other PSP's (except 2.8 ) seem to work fine with downgrading. I want to ask what is the telling sign on a PSP box for the motherboard model? I hear SONY removed the labelling on the boxes that would indicate it. Do ceramic / 'special' PSPs have it by default? Anything that would help identify a PSP without buying yet would be much appreciated...

I assume a 2.8 downgrader will be coming as apparently its been dumped and actively being worked on but TA-082's seem to be screwed by the looks of it (I'm not blowing $200 for the modchip. period.)

Any insight? Thanks

Well first off most of the ceramic white PSP's are going to be TA-082's. I would try to go for a black PSP somewhere that still has the labels on the boxes (if what you said was true). If you are lucky enough to find a PSP that has the letter G on the box then go for it, G means it is 2.01 and I'm pretty sure that most of the TA-082's released were 2.5/6 in europe and the US. The sightings of TA's with 1.51 was only in asia, so they are more common there I'd think. Best of luck to you and make sure you get a non TA-082 motherboard at all costs!

So I suppose all I have to do is fine a PSP package with a G sticker on it...I don't feel like taking chances with any unmarked ones I may find.

By any chance, do you have any idea about the PSP's in Australia?

I wouldn't even do that.

Goto ebay and do a search for PSP 1.5.

ALot of companys know that 1.5's are being sought after and are selling them as homebrew capable.

I know of one company called EZKLiquidators.com(I think that what it is, they do ebay also) that do advertise and sell PSP's that are 1.5.
