DevHook Howto: Making Covers

Here's a quick way to compile a file for the covers of your backup games in devhook.

Tools:

Image editor (ie. Photoshop)
UMDGEN
Archiver (ie. winRAR)

1) Type into Google 'gamespot psp (name of your game)'. Go to it's game page and click the image of the box art. Save the hi-res image from the pop up.

2) Open it up in the image editor and shrink it down.

-The height of the PSP screen is only 272 and it has to be shorter than that anyway since the image will be raised from the bottom of the screen.

-You might want to do a little bit of sharpening/contrasting as well.

-Make sure it's proportioned correctly (116 x 200 works for me fine) or it'll probably end up looking corrupted.

-Needs to be under 100kb

3) Save it as a .bmp (default settings in Photoshop are fine)

4) Open up the .iso of your backup and look in 'UMD_DATA.BIN'

-ie. here's what's in Burnout:

ULES-00125|5E3F4F7710B184A2|0001|G |

-You'll want to copy the corresponding code and rename it as the .bmp of the cover art ie. ULES-00125.bmp

5) After you're done renaming your images, open up UMDGEN and drag 'n drop the files into the main window (where it says 'no items to show').

6) Go to File > Save As

-filename should be covers

-filetype should be CiSO

7) Put the new file in your x:\dh\covers folder.

Tada.

i'm talking about the box art that shows up when you're scrolling through the isos in the xmb with vshexmod.
