DS/ DS lite hacking

With all the advancements in psp hacking i can't help but wonder is there any way i can hack my DS firmware or system software.

My DS just sits there waiting there telling me "hack me , hack me dont you want to know whats inside"

I dont give a sh** about a DS emulator on psp dont ask

A flash card (actually a flash-cart lol) is the only way to get homebrew on your DS.
But like the PSP the DS does have firmware, qj.net has some tutorials that tell you how to know what your
firmware is. Dont expect any downgrader for DS though since there arent any.

I don't really care about running game back-up what i mean is to creat custom DS menues, names, icons and so fourth and maybe creating your own game or app.

It's possible on the gameboy advance.

Your talking about the BIOS (which is the menu, icons, names and so fourth) which is not possible.
But it is possible to create your own game/app.
Same with on the GBA too, by using a rom patcher.
I was looking on how to code for DS like a few months ago, the coding was insane. And it was lua, I couldnt even understand it.

there have been custom firmwares for the DS but most of them suck, the only thing that the DS hacks are good for is running backups of games, it doesn't have much power for anything else. All emulators run slow.

I have been interested in the DS hacks but have never found a really good place to just read about them. The DS hacking/homebrew scene is pretty small but I guess that is more understandable b/c I would argue that Sony/ Nintendo target different audiences (generally). But anyways, I've heard that there were a few pretty good media programs in which you would use the stylus to click play/ fast forward/ stop/ choose new song - that type of thing, and I thought that would be a very neat feature to have even though I'm not a big fan of the DS.

I think people really underestimate LUA sometimes. Great things can be done with LUA just like other programming languages. Kind of odd to hear about LUA being used for DS though lol.

It's not that the community is small, but sice there are many ways of hacking the DS (Meaning the different combinations of Slot 1 and Slot 2 cards and carts) the scene is more spread out, and it is hard to find a simple solution to support your situation.

So I guess the REAL question is... what is the CHEAPEST solution?

The Max Media Dock, it's around 30 bucks and already has software out (on the internet) for launching backed up games.

so you are saying that if I bought a DS and got a max memory dock then that is all I would need to start DS hacks?

that, and a compactflash card. gotta have some form of memory anyways, I really don't count the memory card an expense since you need one either way, it's not optional.

ok I have a 1gb SD card. So could I buy that max media dock and a Nintendo DS Lite... it would play my legal (of course) back ups of games?
