Had an idea...

I just had an idea and I thought I`d throw it out there. Anyways, the idea is this, with all of these new apps for xmb flashers and tools to get to your flash from the xmb, couldn`t it be feasible to access the flash on non-OE FW`s through the xmb. Couldn`t that be an exploit or something that would help non-cutom FW PSP`s?

If this was already talked about in another post, then whatever. I`m NOT searching every post for this topic, if it`s already been discussed, then just delete this one.

The only reason that I thought of this is because I keep seeing apps like Auris v0.1 and if they could somehow get into the flash, well, then there might be an opening for other actions.

Just a humble thought.

I know this, but if you re-read my initial post, you`ll see what I was asking.

You wanted to access flash0 on another firmware other then OE firmwares, and I said you can on any homebrew compatible firmware as in SE, 1.5 and any other FW. If it won't run homebrew then you can't access flash0!

Yeah, I did understand that, I`m not tryin to sound difficult. I was only curious if it could somehow be accessed in FW`s such as 3.4 and 3.5 through the xmb for those who DON`T have capabilities to downgrade. I DO understand that to reach the flash, you need to have custom in order to get to the recovery, but if people can code apps that access this now without going to the recovery and accessing their flash (even though they`re making it for custom), my thought was why can`t something be made as an exploit? All this question was for was an idea to throw around, not really something that needs an explanation for me, I have 3.40oe-a. I was thinking that if somebody that knew coding might think this was a cool/great idea and start in this direction. Remember, ideas are what gets things off the ground. As I said, not tryin to be difficult, but just posing an idea. You`re answers to this post are basically pointed to select FW`s. If this has already been an idea floating around (and I can`t be the only one), then who knows, maybe it`s being looked at even as we speak.

Another thought, if someone can manually flash their BIOS on there PC with jumpers, why can`t that be done to the MoBo of a PSP?

Another thought, could a psp be run off of a big enough stick of RAM and controlled from that? I know I can run Windows off of a CD without a HDD, I can run LINUX without a HDD also. The PSP OS can`t be that big.

Remember, all I`m posting are ideas, nothing more.

Forget that part about running it from the mem stick, I just thought about it, you`d still need to get to the FW in order to change up boot sequence. SONY must have a way to get to the Flash without going through what we are, so, there HAS to be a way into it through some hardware port.

Well then the answer to most of your questions and questions to come will be no. If they did (noobz or DA or someone) found a exploit at all, it would be to downgrade anything higher then 3.03 instead of just trying to change the xmb. And last time I checked, flashing a bios on a comp is alot more complicated then changing some jumpers. Just think about your questions for a few mins and you will get your answer. Im sure Sony (as dumb as they are) has made it more complicated to flash the bios chip on a psp motherboard then a comp which is made to be able to do that.

Just gotta try to get past the write encryption - which, for the most part, isn't possible.

Cool. Thx, those are the kinds of answers I`m lookin for. Maybe I`ll have to get another one just to f*uck up by playin around with.

Any ideas on which firmwares might be best to start with first? I know where there`s a 2.5, 2.71 se, 2 2.60`s, a few 2.81`s, one, maybe two 3.02`s.

The reason that I know this is because the other day, I went down to Hastings, went through EVERY PSP that they had (used of course) and checked FW, well, I got one that was 2.5, downgrded it and took my sony 3.11 back. They accepted it with no problem. So, I guess there`s one way to downgrade - lol.
