Installing HEND on 2.71 TA-082 with a UMD in the slot

As any good noob would, I read a bit before I got started. In the end, I used this tutorial http://www.pspbrew.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6810 and had no issue with the first 2 psp's I downgraded in this fashion. Another friend's psp stopped at the step that installs HEND. The only thing that was different was that there was a recent UMD game in the slot. After consulting other tutorials, that's apparently something to be avoided. In any case, the psp gives some combination of a blue scree, freezing, and going black. No matter how many times I repeat the process, I don't get the green screen and HEND does not get installed. I realize I'm a noob but I've looked around and can't find the answer. It is a 2.71fw with a TA-082 motherboard. Anybody know where that leaves me? Thanks in advance

Thats how I downgraded.

My psp was 2.71 (or was it 2.8? I don't remember) and I have a TA-082. So uhh.. just keep trying? It took me a couple trys. My psp kept freezing up. Eventually it worked.

Well I've done it a couple of times before without issue. I've repeated the steps enough to where I feel I've reached a dead end. On this occasion I had a UMD game in the slot which some tutorials say not to do. I'd like to know why they instruct you not to do this. What happens? Whatever happens is probably my problem. Anybody know or know where I can look for the answer?

I don't own a UMD, so idk.

Look for other tutorials besides the one your using. Maybe there is an Easy Installer for you. Perhaps you are missing a file or something.

QJ probably is the best source.

I did some looking for an easy installer and I haven't found one that doesn't require HEND first. That leaves me at the same spot I suppose. Thanks for the nudge in the QJ direction. didn't know about that site.

Have you tried reformatting your memory stick and starting from scratch? Make sure you have 75% battery or higher as well.

Yup. I did that twice and I tried different memory sticks as well. The only thing I could come up with is that the UMD that was in on the first attempt did something. If I hadn't already done this successfully twice I would think I'm missing something or that I'm doing something wrong. I do appreciate the help guys.

Well now you know two people. Thanks for the nudge in that direction. I'm relatively new to this and have been doing all my reading recently. I thought I read somewhere that HENC wasn't for ta-082 mobos so that alternative never occurred to me. Thanks again, and I know the dude I was doing it for thanks you to because I was about to give up.
