Live-Action Akira Movies

http://www.firstshowing.net/2008/02/20/ ... -for-2009/

I'm cautiously optimistic. If it wasn't for Batman Begins and 300 I would have thought this thing was a lead balloon from the start. I just hope it can be as good as those two comic book adaptations.

ugh that sucks to be honest
theres no way they can make it as good or even close in a live action setting in my opinion

they always hire directors who probably haven't even seen the film before they are asked to do it, i dunno, im just not a fan of companies trying to take extremely popular cult films and trying to remake them in order to make more money off the name (oh and Leonardo DiCaprio is part of the people producing it, what could he ever know about Akira?)

whatever, we'll see how it goes, hopefully its decent but im sure it won't be. 75% of the reason Akira is such an awesome movie is that the animation is so well done, the colors and size of it all are amazing, the art is mind blowing in that movie

I'm a big AKIRA fan... so I hope nothing comes along to botch its reputation.

I am a little mixed in my opinion of this.

I have been following this story for some time now, and I still haven't heard any word on exactly how close the director is going to be working with Katsuhiro.

I really have high hopes for this to be a great movie though.

I am not too sure about this one. I own Akira and right now I am wondering how the hallucinations would be done convincingly. I do not think it would be a really big hit. I thought Silent Hill was ok and the firs two Resident Evil movies were ok; I have not seen the third. Batman Begins was a great film and I am sick of The Matrix Trilogy just to give you an idea on how I think.

I think the hallucination scenes will be easy to film, when you think about it, it was really just legos and milk.

I have a feeling that Hollywood is going to put a dark twist on this movie like they do to so many other movies, and thats not exactly a crowd pleaser.

What about the part when Tetsuo buckled over and his guts spilled out?

I am not saying it can't be done I just think that some things should be left alone. I mean, there is already a film based on the book Akira; so what if its animated?

true, the manga is amazing, and the guts scene has been done in more dark movies than Akira.

I think Akira was good for its time but it has no place as a live action film today. How would you do teddybears bleeding milk? I think if any Manga deserves to be made into a live action film it should be one of the following:

Ghost in the shell

Ninja Scroll

Street Fighter II V

I am sure there are others but those would be good I think, because they have a good story and good action.

Another thing I want to bring up. Is Hollywood's imagination so limited that it can no longer produce original films? Lets see something we have not seen before. Who is with me?

Most films are all the same now, they have used up about every idea, or they can't think of anymore.

I think there are a lot of good original ideas for movies but the big problem is that Hollywood does not want to invest millions of dollars on a film unless they are sure that they will get a big return on it.

If you have a movie idea make it into a book. Ideas like that are always viable as books before they are movies anyway. A movie script is basically a book that has been turned into a play.

If you book is Sci-Fi I would be interested for sure.

Ah yes a book. But I never put to it on making the story. I'm not sure what the main theme would be, but I'd try to put several twists and deaths and stuff in it. I'm guessing you guys heard about the Dragonball movie coming out and UN-ANIMATED! It's gonna be pretty bad probably but I still gotta see it .
