Just because a bunch of people do it doesn't make it legal/illegal. Look at it this way... movies are not free. You pay to see them at a theater, you pay to buy the DVD. You pay for movie channels, and tv networks pay to play them on regular channels as well. When you download them, you are getting it for FREE... technically it is stealing which is why companies have gone through so much trouble to copyright their work and work on DRM and such.

Not saying I don't download, but just getting it out there.

P2P programs such as limewire are the worst. P2P is dead because it is incredibly unreliable and unsafe. Torrents are the next step up (utorrent is a program). You can get on private trackers but you have to find and sign up for them first. For example, sites like pirate bay, bit junkie, torrent portal, and the like are NOT private. Anyone can link to them and grab the torrents and use their trackers. Private trackers require you to be logged into their website before you can use their tracker and download content.

If you can pony up the dough, newsgroups are the shiznit when it comes to downloading. Download speeds are only dependent on your own internet connection. My apartment's internet at the moment is a little slow, so I download at 1.8 MB/sec... I go to my friend's apartment and I can download there at over 5 MB/sec.

If worse comes to worse, just tell them you already own the stuff and you're just downloading a backup copy.

Run out and purchase the stuff - at least you won't get fined.

I'm sure, they gave you a warning and will most likely only retaliate if you continue to download.

they have the burden of proof, right?

if your wireless was unprotected or hacked... does that mean you uploaded that stuff?

Like already stated, if they ask for proof (which i highly doubt they will) just borrow your friends/family members copy of it or go out and purchase a used copy. If you buy new to prove i'm sure they have certain barcodes for certain dates and would be able to tell its a newer version then compare with the date of upload/download. You could even rent a copy from the library if you have to.

id stop downloading period. paramount wont press charges tilll they feel its worth the effort. but its a serious problem if your being monitored. you can be fined and your parents can suffer. do your downloading somewhere else. they monitor after a warning and if they feel the data transferring is worth the trouble nothing will stop them.

Photoshop a picture of you holding a DVD case to look like you're holding the video of whatever movie you're getting in trouble for. Lol.

You can always be monitored regardless if you mess up or not but it takes 2 years before you can get busted again and they can't do anything because of statute of limitations.

IN other words they have up till 2 years from when you screw up to nail you again if they choose and take you to court.

right but if he's under suspicion at the moment he should stop. and id give it a good 3 months. ive ran this scenario in my head. i'd back up everything i had and take it to a trusted friends house then wipe my hard drive and reinstall windows. or just remove my old hard drives and put in a new one with a fresh install. id also cancel my internet if possible so they have nothing to monitor. Then when its been 3 months id get internet service from a DIFFERENT company and only download from ware sites.

also id do it SOON. cause they might just be waiting to get a warrant or something. these guys dont fool around they will take your computer, psp, xbox, mp3 players, everything.
