Dual Citizenship

Alright so I want to move to the US. But keep my Canada citizenship because of our fabulous health care . But I don't know to much about it ahah. So umm yea, anybody know what I have to do?

Like I have friends who know people and say they have to stay in US for 6 months then Canada for 6 months just to keep it but what do I really have to do. I tried to look this stuff up but its hard because I usually get scam websites and all that crap. So anything would be helpful.

Well I mean your gonna have to call them anyway and get it approved..so killing 2 birds with one phone call.

It takes a while to get US citizenship, or citizenship anywhere really. You usually have to be in the country for a certain amount of time BEFORE you can even apply, so that means you would have to look at getting proper visas to work/study in the country.

You can also look at it this way. How many white people do you see in Vancouver? Not many I'll tell you, lol... I'm not racist or anything, but there are a LOT of immigrants in Vancouver. Many foreigners set up shop in Canada and try to become Canadian citizens because it is EASIER than becoming a US citizen. On top of that, governments don't like granting dual citizenships. I don't really know of many people that have dual citizenship from just applying. It either comes from your birth situation (parents are Canadian but you were born in the US) or through marriage. Usually if you are applying for citizenship they want you to give up your other ones. It's like applying for a job because you'd like to work there sometimes...

True I kind of knew that. But it is possible. Like I know one way you can get it is if you have family in the US, that will sponsor? you and by that somehow gives you dual citizen ship? Know anything about that? But even if I can do that, would i have to live in Canada for 6 months then US for 6 months etc. Or what? That is what I was told?

Yeah, I'm in Australia now. It's a min 2 years to apply for a perm residency, but not if you are going for a spousal visa. And perm residency doesn't mean dual citizenship. You still have to renew it every 5 to 10 years depending on your visa.

I might be going for a defacto spousal visa next year to stay here longer with my girlfriend.

Also Brent i didn't know that aparantly in 2 years once he gets his citizenship i can move over, Thinking on it atm.
No sure however if i should finish my A Levels currently doing my GCSE's gona try for a Degree in Physics... Not sure if i should go higher yet, But my dream job is a nuclear physist. Ive got all the skills accept English (My grammar is that of a 12 year old) And my spelling is abit of a fail at times.
