Incline thine ear,and listen; open thine eyes and see...

Image
Today is a special day. Last night was the longest night of the year in the northern hemisphere.

For the next 3 days the sun will also seem to take the exact same path as it arcs in the sky until December 25. It was once said that the sun had entered the "tomb" during this time of year because it had reached it lowest most southern position in the sky.
Image
In the ancient world the colder days and long evenings signaled the end of the sun's life. Anything that once had warmth but now is cold and doesn't appear to move was said to be dead.

After December 25 the sun will seem to shift more and more to the north as it rises slightly higher and higher each day along it's path as summer approaches.

So for now let's leave it at "The son died and was placed in the tomb".

I will continue this post and respond to any comments or questions in 3 days just to mark the occasion.

Here is what it means...

It is now December 25. Today is the day that the sun "appears" to start moving to the north again.
Image
simulation of solar pics taken at the same time every few days or so throughout the year.
The same ancients that said the sun died (it wasn't moving) now notice that the sun is moving again so the sun was said to be born again.

Jesus's birth is celebrated on December 25, the same day that the sun starts it's cycle moving higher in the sky and bringing warmth and more daylight hours as summer approaches. His birth was foretold by 3 wise men whom followed a star in the east to his arrival.

This is all completely Astrological the setup of which looks like this:
Image
The 3 stars above the first pyramid were known in ancient times as the 3 kings. They form a diagonal line to the star in the east seen here above the first pyramid. This star is Sirius. The line drawn by the angle of the 3 kings and the star Sirius points to the general direction of the sunrise. During this alignment the sun rises in the constellation Virgo the virgin.
ImageImage courtesy of NASA http://history.nasa.gov/alsj/a11/A11StarChart-S1.jpg
So it is written(more or less)... The 3 wise men followed the star in the East to the Savior born of a virgin.

Note how the constellation Virgo and Acrux are together. Remember that 3 days ago the sun died on the cross? Now it's risen again and born of a virgin! Another thing, December 25 is between Sagittarius represented by a horse and Capricorn the goat, 2 types of animals found in a manger.

More to come...

I could have started with Jesus(the sun) being born on December 25 but then I would have to wait until December 22, 2010 before I could explain the solar symbolism behind his death.

It doesn't really matter anyways because it is all a cycle which I will show.

The resurrection is celebrated in the spring because March 22 is when the days become longer than the nights. Light triumphs over darkness.

Ultimately it is all symbolism of the suns trek through the Zodiac. Which I can prove. I will refer to this video occasionally http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eeQwYrfm ... r_embedded

By the way, the concept of judgment and the afterlife was stolen from the ancient Egyptians. You wouldn't pray to an Egyptian god (would you?) and yet you end each prayer with Amen(do you not?), the name of the Egyptian sun god.

+3 Christmas Reps!! :D

Que, and I think that you're forgetting that Christmas is not the day Jesus was born. No one knows what day he was born. We only celebrate it on that day.
And if you think for one minute that because in English the word 'sun' and 'son' sound the same that they also sound the same in other languages, then you're quite mistaken. Hijo is Spanish for son while sol is Spanish for sun. So, if this whole conversation was in Spanish, your arguement would be completely rediculous because it would make even less sense.

Do you think this day was chosen at random to represent the birth day of Jesus, a day that coincidentally represents the beginning of the sun's rise in the sky and it's 12 month journey through the Zodiac? In 7 days we will celebrate the new year, have you ever wondered why we do it this time of year?

Is Easter also randomly chosen to celebrate the crucifiction; the death of Jesus? I think not!

Can anyone explain why there are 2 different versions of the birth of Jesus in the New Testament? Did you even know?
It seems that not only is the exact day not mentioned but also the New Testament does not agree 100% on how it all even happened!

What happened was that Christmas wasn't really recognized as a religious holiday and was on a different day though some people did celebrate it. But, there was this king who killed Christians because of their faith that changed everything. He turned to God when he saw what he was doing and realized that it was bad. He told his country to become Christian or die. Many thought it was a joke. So, he decided to change the annual winter solstice festival into a holiday to remember Jesus by. This changed the theme of the holiday and because people celebrated it so heavily, they were easily manipulated into celebrating Christmas.
I hope you now understand why Christmas is on the wrong day.

Is Easter also randomly chosen to celebrate the crucifiction; the death of Jesus? I think not!

Neither do I.

As for the final part of your arguement, I don't know what the heck you're trying to say. Please show me this conflict.

Read for yourself...

Mathew 2:13 Herod and slaughter of the innocents. No mention of census.

Luke 2 Joseph and Mary travel to be counted for census. No mention of Herod.

BTW, Interesting story on that king that dedicated Christmas to Jesus. Could you find out his name or tell me which kingdom he ruled over?

This thread is perfectly acceptable to be revived, as the many and most of our dearest debates and squabbles have been and will be revived in the future. May I only ask that people not debate here for the remainder of Christmas and a period after, but embrace in the joy of your own spirit without taking into regard whom gave you it, but rather the presence it has on others whom care about and love you. Regardless of denomination or religious belief, I hope everyone here has a merry Christmas and happy holidays. This thread will be locked for a brief time and will be unlocked when appropriate.

This thread will be revived soon despite a recent thread involing gay marriage being locked due to religious debate gone sour. I just want to make a few notes about how posting in this thread should go about from here on.

1. The Bible or any other "holy book" is not fact. It is a text that cites a faith-based religion, so please don't absent mindedly ignore a point made by anyone just because you are aligned with any religion in particular.

2. This thread's purpose is not to prove or disprove any religion wrong. Any assumption about anything being true or false should be decided on an individual basis by taking into account the posts that people are trying to convey.

3. No posting anything in regards to the previously locked gay marriage thread unless a staff member initiates it or allows it, so ask a moderator or administrator before you quote anything in the other thread unless you want the staff to vote for how long you should be banned. The bottom line is that the Bible does not mention that gay marriage should be illegal so denying another human that right is prejudice. I didn't want to word it that way because I value independent thought, but the last thread was such a poor example of independent thought that it found itself locked. Debating how gay marriage is described or should be interpreted from any religious passage in any holy book is acceptable, however, this time cite your information.

4. Do not dare tell anyone that their religious beliefs are wrong without providing a reason as to why you think that way. This is for serious religious debate so for those who cannot back up their points with any type of reference material other than their opinion, those posts may be deleted.

So gear up folks, the brew's most widely posted and internationally-viewed debate thread is returning soon.
